Mad Max.

Roop: That scag and his floozie, they're gonna die!

Nightrider: [via radio] You should see the damage, bronze. Huh? metal damage, brain damage. Heheheh. You listen bronze. I am the Nightrider. I'm a fuel injected suicide machine. I am the rocker, I am the roller, I am the out-of-controller! I'm the Nightrider, baby,

[unintelligible]

Nightrider: , and we ain't never comin' back!

Also the Goose bike crash lead in.  Look closely, the bike with rider and cameraman passenger have that baby maxed out, a Kawa 1000cc street bike.  That was ages before a gopro.

Pacific Rim.

Raleigh: Gipsy Danger, ready for the big drop.
Mr Choi: Initiating neural handshake in 15 seconds....

I totally agree.  I remember feeling intense after seeing the first 13 minutes of Saving Private Ryan the first time at the movie theater.

Since the actual first minutes of SPR aren't really the ones everyone thinks of (although I thought the Arlington scene was extremely powerful and I get choked up everytime I watch it) I'll have to nominate another.

I can't find video of the opening scene.

28 Weeks Later. The film itself is meh. The opening, directed by Danny Boyle, is intense. I remember watching it in the cinema and there was complete silence when it fades to black. The entire audience was transfixed.

I would post a youtube link but a shitty, blurry clip of someone filming their tv screen with their iPhone doesnt do it justice.

I completely agree, i saw 28 weeks later in the theatres and that was by far the best true first 5 minute openings I have ever seen

The beginning of the 2004 Dawn of the Dead was excellent.  Everything up to the end of The Man Comes Around set a standard the rest of the film couldn't match.
