Any recommendations on where to eat, drink, scuba dive or anything else that would be interesting? Also what/where should I avoid?

Announce unlimited free beer on one side of the island and see if you can capsize it!

View Quote My sub pulled in there about 20 years ago... one of the guys on the sub had a book that listed a bunch of hiking areas. One of the areas contained a hiking path with a bunch of caves, I did a quick search and found this link Guam Caves There was a cave that was very tiny and have some very old writing on the sides. The book did not tell which cave had it, but once we found the small cave, we were able to find the old drawings. The book also discussed a cave with a large drop off, we fashioned a rope ladder at the barracks and took it with us to climb down into. The caves were VERY hot, however we had an amazing time. Take some water, flashlights and a friend or two :-) |

Don't walk to the edge, it may capsize... View Quote People there work hard every day to help make sure that doesn't happen. They monitor how many people are on each part of the island at any time and will dynamically redistribute ballast to maintain total balance with great accuracy. They're very good at what they do, and you rarely ever even realize they're there. It's a thankless job that most everyone takes for granted. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

My relatives there have some fascination with Jeff's Pirate Cove.

Guam is good for hiking. Grab a tourists book and head into the old jungle.
Also, avoid the rip currents. |
|
SCUBA diving is great there, I recommend Fuji Ichi Ban, noodle house in Tumon, and Jamaican Grill. Lots of sightseeing around the island, so be sure to get out.
Don't pick up any of the local girls. Guam stands for Give Up And Masterbate. |

depends on if you are military or not. when i was there i went to the navy bases Gab Gab (sp?) Beach, that was awesome to snorkel and dive in. also some okay beaches at Anderson AFB.
jeffs pirate cove is pretty popular. def go check out the caves around the island. also if you are military there is a guy on Anderson AFB that does tours around the island featuring mostly WW2 stuff. Two Lover's Point (if you are with special lady friends ) Gun Beach, and the beaches around the Outrigger, and Hyatt hotels has some touristy stuff. (as well as good scenery ) and also Talofofo Falls |

Dont they also have leveling barges and a giant gyroscope to prevent it?

Talofofo Falls used to be a fun place to go, but it's been 25 years since I've been there, so I'm sure much has changed.
Many a hangover was installed at Barney's Beach House on Tumon Bay, but that's been closed for years and years. |

View Quote Dive spots: - As previously mentioned the Tokai Maru and Sms Cormoran is a great dive, I've got some pointers if you do that one - Fish eye is fun to go watch the Japanese tourists. - There's a Japanese float plane that's off of the shore of the Navy base. - Basically you can't go wrong. MDA has a dive schedule that you should just get on whenever you have the chance. |

Post pics when able. I have known several fellow soldiers from Guam. All tough, great guys. I'd love to see pics of the place.

I can't believe I haven't seen this already. Must have heard this 10,000 times in the Navy.

Jeff's Pirate Cove is a great place to eat and enjoy the view. Naval Officer's Club up on Nimitz Hill is a great place to eat too. They used to do Mongolian feast twice a week.
For diving - Gun Beach, Gab Gab 2, Japanese Fueling Pier, Piti Bomb Holes (not really bomb holes). There are amtracks off of Agat if you know where to look. And, the Umatac Zero is cool. If the weather isn't too bad, diving on the Pacific side at UoG is awesome! Saw a manta ray there one time. |

I also learned to dive in Guam.
Toaki MAru SS Comarran is a great dive but can be challenging to find, unless they have marked it some how in teh last 20 years. Kizagawa Maru is a good dive See Bee Junk yard Several WWII aircraft in Agana harbor. Touch Base with MDA, and they can hook you up. Snorkel at the Piti bomb holes. It is shallow and dive gear is not necessary |

What was the myth that there was a Japanese soldier who was living in a cave for the past 40-50 years with no idea WWII was over?
Or was that the Island of Okinawa? On a serious note, I'd love to get a TDY there for a couple of weeks. Two weeks should be plenty of time to hike around the island. |

I never realized guam was a place tourists could visit.
For some reason I thought it was only accessable by military. |

I would avoid walking down Main Street in Agana (by the bay) with a red setting sun (Japanese) flag.
