i'm not, it's about fucking time she got out of that house and had people to talk to besides herself

if she weren't so damned stubborn she would have left about 2 years ago

it's going to the estate sale people next week, they said it'll be about six weeks to catalog and price everything

my doctor doctor doctor relatives have already come and claimed their shit.  money doesn't buy class.  hauled off about 20lbs of sterling silver and even got my fucking butter molds.  those were left to me but I seriously, seriously did not think that I needed to secure butter molds from people worth millions of dollars.  I guess their maid can use it in conjunction with the butter churn they also took and they'll be rolling in fresh butter all the time

anyway, looking through old catalogs now.  what the hell ever happened to Bennett brothers?  they used to be second only to sears and roebuck...

Ditto - though that might be lead pencil

That tool chest looks newer than 19th century

I just went through something similar with my parents. A lot of their stuff  (crystal, china, furniture, etc.) was from the same era as in your pictures. We had a lot of sentimental value, but were surprised how little they were worth on the open market. We researched and went to auctions to check out the "competition". Seems like many of the pieces were from an era that is now not very popular from a decorative perspective. We also saw LOTS of supply on the market (seems many of this generation are now moving on).I'm not suggesting that there is no value in this stuff, but realistically you are looking at typical pieces being $50 - $100. There is a ton of crystal on the market. You might have good luck with the furniture based on markings.

We have a small family that gets along well. Each member of my family now has a few "remembrances" of Mimi & Papa. The rest we liquidated at a local auction house and split the $ equally among ALL the family.

Best of luck to you. Take your time (it took us a year from start to finish).

Only ring holders I've seen look like

At least they took it all. My sister split the silverware and crystal ware 50/50 with me.  I thought she would take all of the silverware and leave the crystal. She took half of each serving set. I feel like throwing my share away. She took 3 chairs of the dining room table set and I think one of the table leaves? I wish her well with her parts. I haven't spoken to her since.  She only pops up when someone dies and there's money involved. I'm probably the next one to die. No $$$ for her. Dysfunction lives on!!!

Sadly, most of that stuff is not all that valuable. some might have a fairly high book value, but when you go to sell it you will be lucky to get 10% of that.

You can't let it eat on you.
It's just stuff.
After my Dad died, I ended up with his old sun hat (now rotted away, and burned in the fireplace one winter night after a 3 finger toast of whiskey)'
And his electric smoker.

I had a hard time scrounging up small mementos for his friends.

And as I get older, I'm having a hard enough time getting rid of my own useless stuff.

I've got pictures and memories.

It's enough.

Hey Tex, I will have to go thru this same shit with my parents.  They are in their 70's and their house is an antique show room.  We are in SW Ok and I know from around here what you have to do is advertise, advertise, advertise, far and wide when you get ready to have the estate sale.  Make sure the auction house publishes names for the various items.  Collectors like to know what is for sale and if it is worth their time to drive.

People around here and collectors will drive across the state for a good sale.  As one poster already said be ready for some surprises when things sale.  Some things will go low that should of brought more while other small items may go high if that's what is collectible at the moment.

I would have that German mold appraised and that tool chest you like so much, if it is real, might be the most expensive item there.

Holy crap! Nothing against your sister, but that's totally a bitch move! Dealing with declining parents brings out the absolute worst in families. My dumb-ass, dipshit brother stole 300k worth of gold coins from my father before he died! I only found out about it by going through my father's papers after he died. I only wish I had found my adoption papers proving I wasn't related to my asshole brother. No-I'm not bitter

Just be prepared to get a lot less than you were expecting by auctioning it.
There will be some people there after certain items and may spend a few extra bucks on other stuff while they are there, but a lot of your buyers are going to be resellers who end up with the majority of the stuff for pennies on the dollar.

In your 3rd set of pix, there looks like some blue china.  Is it Meissen China?  If so, it could be worth a fair amount.  My grandparents brought some back from Germany in the early 60-s.  When my grandmother died, some of the items were sold  for 700 to 800 bucks.  A piece. She had boxes and boxes.  Some have not been put up for sale yet.

Some of the glass has been reproduced to a point where the original is just about worthless due to the fact you cant really tell the old from the new. especially as the new gets older each year. A lot of the people who used to collect the glass have gotten old and are now in the same position. Us younger (55) folks do not remember it or have the same attachment to it. As some have said do not expect a real fortune out of this stuff. I really like the little coffee grinder in one of the pictures. I have it's Great Great Granddaddy here, it came from a local store.

This.  If you auction it, expect 20-25% of the actually value, if you are lucky.

How much you want for the hen/rooster if you decide to sell?
