My coworker had her phone all geared up to show me videos of this ALS Ice Bucket Challenge today. I asked her what ALS was, and she had no idea. She's 59, I'm 26, at least I have a basic knowledge of the disease.
The Ice Bucket Challenge is basically raising awareness for ALS, but the awareness is in my opinion being overshadowed by which celebrity can do the best call out video to the next celebrity. I would rather see the contenders actually speak about ALS, and truly raise awareness, not just, "watch my skit before I get doused in icey water and call out more people to do the same thing so we don't have to donate money." |

On one hand, it's a creative way to bring ALS awareness to the forefront, and a way to make people talk about it and get them to donate. A woman in my church died of ALS a few years ago, and she deteriorated EXTREMELY rapidly. It was heartbreaking.
On the other, I think a lot of people are just doing it just to do it, without a true understanding of the meaning of it. |

I came home from work today and the house was full of teenage girls wearing bikinis and dumping ice water on themselves.
Daughter had friends over, and the ice bucket in the freezer was empty so Gin and Tonic was out. |
