Didn't Jobs do the NeXT computers in the '90's? It was released in October of 1988. Apple's OS X is descended from the NeXTSTEP OS. |

Dear lord I remember when all this was brand new. Especially game boy, Commodore 64, gobot watches, and walkman.
I remember seeing Back to the future and thinking the 50s were an unlivable dark age. And now....well now if you made BTTF the 30 year past would be the era in which it was made. And the 80s, especially the late 80s seemed so high tech. VCRs.....video games...and color computers. The first I saw a CD I thought it would never get more advanced. I feel like my concept of a cyberpunk future is now woefully outdated |

We went from the M60 MBT to the M1 Abrams (chobham armor) . We got microwave ovens, cd's, usable computers, cell phones, vcrs, digital everything, nicad and lithium batteries, and a host of other goodies in the mid-to-late 80's. It's been said it takes about 30 years to reverse engineer new technology. Roswell was 1951. Do the math.

11/70's were still in use well into the 80's (yes I know the 11/780 came out in 1977) What in thee hell is a 11/70 ? I wish I still had the youthful sense of wonder that you possess. |

It is mindblowing the tech change from the Grasshopper to today's cars. Speed, handling, durability and run time are at the levels we only dreamed of back in those days. And amazingly, cars and parts are cheaper then they were in the 80s. I have a Hornet, Frog and a few other early/mid 80s cars. Also recently bought an Associated SC10 truck. Whole new ball game. Hell yeah! I had a Tamiya Hornet, and a friend had a Grasshopper. I was playing with my nephew's cheap R/C car last weekend and was wishing I still had that Hornet and Futaba radio around. I may have to duck in to a hobby store and see what the tech is like these days. The wait for the "quick charger" was painful, even if you delivered enough papers to get a 2nd battery. I still have my '88 vintage RC10, think it cost some $300+ for the kit with ball bearings. Haven't even looked at it in years, waiting for Son #1 to get a little older. |

I learned BASIC on a full size TRS-80 PC and I wanted one of those below after that; sort of a first go at a laptop. There were expensive as hell; no way I was getting my parents to get one. Our first family PC ended up being an Apple IIc. It was tossed out by my Mom many years ago and I'm sure they will be worth a lot in the future. http://i1373.photobucket.com/albums/ag397/saltyme/tandy100_ad_zpsbeb26367.jpg View Quote I had a Model 100 in the late 90s (admittedly well beyond its prime) but it was still a great machine with the best keyboard a laptop has ever had. Remember when the VHS tapes first came out and when you went to rent a movie you also rented a VCR cause you didn't have one ? Good times View Quote Few years ago I was working on blockbusters system to integrate the cc pinpads. I had to move some stuff where the backboard went to the server. Several large vinyl boxes that weighed about 20 lbs each. Opened one up iit was a top load VCR. Must have had 20 of them. He was going to toss them but never got the OK so there they sat for years. I wished I offed to buy 2 or 3 I still buy movies at garage sales for the cabin. One thing no one will break in and steal them or the CRT TV. These where good high quality ones that would last for ever. Zenith and Magnavox. They where made in th USA too. |
