Yes.

If you look at a lot of the kits that made it in they were sanitized of markings.

They also supplied Rhodesia with FALs.

There are also some interesting examples of FALs from when the Katangese government and military remnants fled to Portuguese territory and Northern Rhodesia as the UN invasion finished its conquest in 1963, including some very early examples of FALs which ended up with Southern Rhodesia when the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland broke up shortly afterwards.  Later, FALs from the ANC also ended up in Rhodesia.

Yep, except in this case. ZA is post Rhodesia (Zimbabwe Army). RA was Rhodesian Army. UinM was South Africa, and from everything I've seen they never used Zuid Afrika (ZA) on their arms.

I'm pretty sure that in Afrikaans it is Suid Afrika and not Zuid Afrika, but in any case, czechsix is right, the RSA never used that sort of marking.  There was a time I thought it might mean Zambian Army, since Zambia was the successor to Northern Rhodesia, but I'm fairly certain now that the Z stands for Zimbabwe.

A couple have been posted on FalFiles, but I can't provide any links.  I recall a Rhodesian Air Force vet discussing a FAL he was issued which was an early type and also had been modified to use a Lee-Enfield No.4 bayonet.  Rhodesia got what it could and used most of what it had.  They also got G-1s from somewhere, there are a couple of pics on FalFiles of Rhodesian troops with them (I think they are INTAF or Guard Force).  Unfortunately, only a few examples of the rarer FALs made it to the U.S. as parts kits.

Munitions were also included in that embargo, so the Rhodesian military had to be accurate and very judicious with there fire. Fucking Jimmy Carter!

A guy I know that emigrated here from Johannesburg, SA said the same thing. He was not in Rhodesia, but fought the same terrorists that they did. They were issued the R1 rifle, and most of them had the grenade spigot muzzle device. One day I asked him about the 'baby shit green' camo that the Rhodesian painted on their rifles. He said that was totally a Rhodesian or merc thing. They were not allowed to pain their rifles. Must be kept clean whenever possible.

I should ask if he's got any photos some day.

My message box was full. The L1A1 rifles were relics of the pre UDI days and from my understanding were left in reserve because of the lack of interchangeably between metric and inch mags. Chances are SAS would have carried a Metric FAL.

There are these things some archaeologists recently discovered from ancient times called books.  Supposedly they can be really informative and include many volumes on Rhodesia.  So I've heard, anyways.

All facetiousness aside, there are a number of good books out there if you want some recommendations, including general works of history, political history, military history, analysis and details about actual tactics, techniques, etc.  I seriously doubt you'll find much audio media about it, and I'm not sure there is anything out there to find in the first place.

I appreciate it, but due to the nature of my work, I can usually listen to 4-5 hours of podcasts a day, which makes it much easier for me to listen to podcasts or audio books than to find time to actually read physical books, as much as I prefer to read.

This post will highlight the ingenuity of the Rhodies

Yeah, we think of "technicals" as a Black African Militia thing.  Guess who invented it and did it well.

Mine warfare was a huge problem.  this is an MRAP built out of a VW called the Pookie

The Pig a mine resistant APC- IIRC these were made in house by the Selous Scouts for external ops

The more common Crocodile

Of course they are famous for developing the assault vest and chest rig- things we copy now.

Their ingenuity extended in to the air as well.  The Allouettes rigged for Fire Force really show this. The 20mm was scavenged from a Vampire I think.

Understandable.  I was facetious because most people who ask me that are simply too lazy or otherwise unwilling to read and just have to have audio or video in order to learn anything.

Like I said, you're not going to find much of anything if that's what you want.  JRT Wood's book on Fire Force tactics includes an informative DVD that you could probably listen to while working, but that's all I can think of (and just FYI, one cannot, IMO, learn to the fullest with regards to this subject without encountering and reading JRT Wood's books and other works).

Great pics!

I wear what some would call "nut huggers" quite a bit. Even in the woods, but not while sawing. They're from Cabelas and I believe they're called safari shorts or hiking shorts. I like the 5.5" inseam much better than the ghetto shorts hanging below the knee. Capstick used to wear shorts exclusively as well and even wrote some on the reasoning. If I had some time I'd look it up.
