I wonder how much the facts will change by the time I check arfcom tomorrow?
|

Well I bet he won't get out of his car and go running on the track again. That seems like a dangerous thing to do.

changed title, haven't seen that the other driver was confirmed dead.

So that was why a shitload of emergency vehicles went flying by before.
He wrecked at that track last year too. |

Tyler Graves, a sprint-car racer and friend of Ward's, told Sporting News in a phone interview that he was sitting in the Turn 1 grandstands and saw everything that happened. "Tony pinched him into the frontstretch wall, a racing thing," Graves said. "The right rear tire went down, he spun on the exit of (Turn) 2. They threw the caution and everything was toned down. Kevin got out of his car. … He was throwing his arms up all over the place at Tony for most of the corner. "I know Tony could see him. I know how you can see out of these cars. When Tony got close to him, he hit the throttle. When you hit a throttle on a sprint car, the car sets sideways. It set sideways, the right rear tire hit Kevin, Kevin was sucked underneath and was stuck under it for a second or two and then it threw him about 50 yards." View Quote |

I read about 3/4.
It seems to me that Stewart came around under yellow (along with everyone else), the other driver came toward him to flip him off / yell at him, Stewart gunned it as he went by to FLING DIRT AT THE DRIVER ............. but screwed up the timing and/or throttle and ending up hitting the guy instead. That's how I read the situation. |

This is not good....... I hope to God Smokes temper didn't finally do him in.

Here's how a witness described the details of the alleged incident to the Sporting News:
“People [who could see it better] said the guy got out of his car and was gesturing angrily at Tony Stewart when Tony Stewart came by during the next lap under yellow,” Rich Willis said in a phone interview with Sporting News. "He approached him and evidently when he was driving by the guy standing on the track gesturing at him, he gunned his engine. "What happened was the back end kicked out and clipped the guy and the guy flew across the track." Ward is from Port Leyden, N.Y. and according to his website, he's been racing since he was 4. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nascar-from-the-marbles/tony-stewart-reportedly-involved-in-incident-under-investigation-at-new-york-dirt-track-042049206.html |

Fuck...
Sounds like a really shitty deal. Hope everyone involved is OK... ...and tag for more info. |

Holy fuck!
An all out sprint car hitting a man with one of the drive tires is like being smacked by a 5000 rpm steam roller on the front of a freight train. It would be a miracle if he survived. |

Sounds like another driver standing in the track tried playing chicken with Tony's car

That is crazy.
What would the charge be? Manslaughter? 2nd degree murder? |

I know it is often done that a driver will show his displeasure to the other driver by standing on the track, usually with no issue, but it appears that this time, the driver wasn't lucky. |
