There's a thread in the Night Vision forum, but I thought GD might want an update too. The FLIR One thermal imagine attachment for iPhone has started shipping. I'm just a regular guy that ordered one, and it arrived today. It's pretty damn cool. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v220/dcloudy777/photo40_zpsb4754ee7.jpg View Quote post pics of dog and people outside at different yardages.. at night |

Waiting eagerly for mine to come in.
When did you order yours? Is the 6-10 day shipping estimate accurate? I need my toy dammit! |

What are you all going to do when the iPhone 4 or 5 (what ever version this one uses) is no longer around?
|

Page me when they have something for android and something that can be used as a HUD on a car while driving at night that won't cost more than twice the value of my car. |

In for night shots. I wish they made one for Android.
Wait, would that work on an old second gen ipod touch? Edit: Looks like thats a no. |

Video and lots of photos. http://gizmodo.com/flir-one-camera-review-yep-predator-vision-for-your-i-1614296200 |

I wonder if it can find a golf all in the rough.? Could a ball have a heat signature as a feature.
This could save me $5-$10 a round.... |

Waiting for a couple more reviews before I pull the trigger. Namely, how does it work outside (range)?

Does it still only work with the iPhone 5? I have a 4 supplied by my employer and I doubt they will upgrade the phone (they wouldn't when I told them the power on/off button quit working after about 2 weeks, and not covered by any warranty either)
And has anyone heard of mu optics? Or did they dissappear ? They were promoting a similar FLIR camera adapter for the iPhone (would work with any) and had a Kickstarter or some such funding initiative around the same time. It would be great to have one of these for work. |

But with the iPhone 6 coming out in about a month or so, you should be able to pick up a 5 for peanuts. |

I'm curious as well if this works in dark environments. It apparently uses two cameras to create the image. The thermal imager and a VGA camera. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Yeah, in a dark room, you would only seen the heat data because the camera won't get any real image. The picture that lets you see that its a dog, computer, etc wouldn't be there. So this has limited usefulness for stuff like IDing targets at night. Still seems cool.. do want one.. but I have no real use for it so I doubt I'll get one. If OP is bored he should take a similar pic with a piece of tape or something over the camera. That will show everyone what they will see in dark rooms or at night in the woods. |

Output quality is poor compared to an i7.
Beside a toy, what use is there for one? |

View Quote Seems like it is mostly marketed to contractors and the like who may use it to see how well insulation is work, find ducting leaks without cutting a wall open.. things like that. It's not really a tactical tool at all. It also costs like 20% of the i7 price, so can't expect too much. |

It's only real defensive use I can think of would be as a "supplement" to my PVS 14 setup. I'm thinking about getting one of those forearm bands that holds the phone. Basically the TI can help show you where to look with the NOD. Finding leaky windows and lost pets will probably be the "practical" use mine ever gets. |

Could it be used with that Intellsight app for cheap NV? http://images.gizmag.com/inline/inteliscope-iphone-adapter-3.png View Quote I was looking at the Intellisight stuff the other day.... I don't see why they couldn't design a special mount and update their app to accommodate the FLIROne... it would probably take a joint collaboration with FLIR to happen though. I wouldn't ever use such a setup for anything important.... but it might be super cool on the suppressed 10/22... |
