32 was always the standard large.
A nation of big fat pigs. I'm no help. |
You ever notice you can't fit into your old shirts? They haven't shrunk but the industry has up-sized everything so today's large is like yesterday's medium (or worse).
late 80's, 7-11 came out with the 64 oz big gulp for 99 cents...... that changed the world
I remember watching a documentary that showed the evolution of fast food beverage cup sizes. Essentially what I took away from it was that today's small was a large in the 1950s.
In the very few times I order a meal combo where I elect to get a soda, I ask for a medium and its still fuckin huge.

With ice, a 32 ounce cup equals a 12 ounce can.
Unrelated to your whine, but thought I would type that out. |

Yo dawg a big gulp cant be 12 oz I mean fo real

One of our national pastimes is to drink drinks that are larger than our bladders. Some countries play soccer.

IIRC, it peaked like that around 10 or so years ago. Then everyone got all protesty about McDonald's and "super size", and McDs and others started shrinking their drinks to look better. Now that all of the rage about drink sizes has calmed down, they're going back up again.

When did candy bars, pop tarts and snack cakes shrink? For a nation of fatsos we aren't consistent at all with our shitty food.

People are fat. Diabetes treatment is profitable.
People are stupid. Capitalism dictates that if fat fuck wants to buy 2 20 oz to drink at a time, make one large cup, full with more ice and make more profit. In reality, mo money, mo fat people, mo stupid. |

We are filled with a lot of large, overweight people in our society right now. Happy to admit, I am not one of them but it's not easy to stay at a healthy weight. I usually eat what I want, but sure as hell work it off through exercise.

When I worked at Burger King in high school, the soda sizes were
Small: 16oz Medium: 21oz Large: 32oz King: 40oz KFC still seems to uses similar sizes, but most other places have dropped the size of their sandwiches and increased the size of their beverages to make up for it. Cuts costs, increases waist sizes. EDIT: As I look over at the fast food cups I have sitting next to me (filled with water...yep, I'm single and drinking out of fast food cups), the Whataburger medium is actually larger than the KFC large. Neither has a size printed on the cup though. |

When they started filling them to the top with ice to save $.075 per drink.
Meh. They cram them so full of ice you barely get 12 ounces of liquid in the cup.

View Quote that seems accurate to me...last time i was in a movie theatre i remember being amazed at what they were selling as a large sized soda...it was ginormourous. Americans have simply become accustomed to these larger drink sizes and at the same time larger meal portion sizes and have become fatter, and fatter as a result... |
