My buddy was at the unveil earlier this week.

He says he'll be getting one, but he gets everything

Which?  the T-rex or the Slingshot?

I think the slingshot pricing was pretty good.

What is the advantage to 3 wheels instead of 4?  Is it just to save a few pounds, or regulatory, or...?  I'm just looking at this and thinking it's a half-fast Ariel Atom.

Both I think.  It's registered as a motorcycle and is only 1700 lbs.

And the Atom comes in at $55,000

I know the Atom is a lot more expensive.

I'm just wondering if it's actually beneficial, from a performance standpoint, to have three wheels instead of four, or if they are doing it because the fourth wheel would require airbags and 5mph bumpers.  Is it really innovative, or are they just working within the confines of the law?

And I'm not trying to be smart- the engineer in me is genuinely curious.

I was hoping this had 4 wheels to compete with the ariel atom

Having 3 wheels probably classifies it as a motorcycle and gives them lots of leeway on the safety ratings.
