There is no known cure if you get it and you only have a 10% chance to live.

FREETOWN, July 29 (Reuters) - The doctor leading Sierra Leone's fight
against the worst Ebola outbreak on record died from the virus on
Tuesday, the country's chief medical officer said.

The death of
Sheik Umar Khan, who was credited with treating more than 100 patients,
follows the deaths of dozens of local health workers and the infection
of two American medics in neighboring Liberia, highlighting the dangers
faced by staff trying to halt the disease's spread across West Africa.

Ebola
is believed to have killed 672 people in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra
Leone since the outbreak began in February, according to the World
Health Organization. The contagious disease, which has no known cure,
has symptoms that include vomiting, diarrhea and internal and external
bleeding.

The 39-year-old Khan, hailed as a "national hero" by the
Health Ministry, had been moved to a treatment ward run by the medical
charity Medecins Sans Frontieres in the far north of Sierra Leone.

He
died on Tuesday afternoon, less than a week after his diagnosis was
announced, and on the same day that President Ernest Bai Koroma was due
to visit his treatment center in the northeastern town of Kailahun.

Ebola is somewhat hard to pass, especially when proper precautions are taken.  I'm guessing she got a little lax with her precautions.

Is that why the trained doctors are now dying??

ETA:  It is not just the one doc, several have it now.

According to some foreign borne cunt on O' Reilly Factor last night,  Ebola is not a problem.  No one dies from Ebola.  Dumb cunt.

SHUT. DOWN. EVERYTHING.

Or throw the door wide open at the southern border. That'll probably be fine, too.

Hard to speculate.

Could the Virus have gone airborne?  Possibly but not likely.

Could doctors working in field environments, under stress, long hours, with a native population that doesn't practice basic sanitation, etc...contribute to a break in or exploit a weakness in the precaution protocols, a far more likely scenario.

Fun Fact:

Professional courtesy prevents O'Reilly from contracting Ebola.

1 Dr per 100 patients. That's pretty good odds in the Progressive 3rd world.

The slow chase has evolved. It's a kinder, gentler world nowadays. Hope the Dr. recovers quickly.

They are all suited up and are sitting in traffic. Imagine what the people sitting next to them at the stop light must think when they look over and see these guys fully suited up.

I saw a movie about something close to this. Will Smith died in the end.

There was another movie something like it but it was spread through human bites...

This part is spooky.

Yeah, the guy was the top doctor in a 4th world shithole, but I am sure he knew and took the recommended precautions.
Is this virus changing in a way that no one had previously noticed or anticipated?
Not like they never do that.

If Ebola ever does become much more easily transmitted (or already has), we are in deep doo-doo.

This. In the book "the hot zone" the nuns that were "helping" people actually contributed to the spread of disease.

It's kind of easy, after awhile, to get slack in precaution protocol. In normal diseases (TB, ect) you might can get away with that a time or two. You can't really with ebola.

I'm a microbiologist and yesterday one of my coworkers came in absolutely hysterical about the ebola pt in Atlanta.   She was letting us all know she wasn't coming to work if ebola came to savannah.

I said I wasn't coming to work if there were riots. I think my scenario is more realistic. I guess I'm the only one that would be kind of exited if we got an ebola patient.

Patient has escaped confinement, bit a large chunk of flesh from one of the attendants and is now running down the street.

Oh SHIT!

And so it begins…….
