I am not anti-Israel at all, and I have no problem with them killing Palestinians...but are they our closest ally?

Hannity has been saying this every time I have heard him open his mouth, and all he's been doing on his show is having Israelis on so he can stroke them off.

Seems to me like we've caught more than a couple Israeli spies, and haven't the Israelis try to take some military equipment we sold them and sell it to China? I won't mention the ship.

So are they our closest ally? I would think that Britain would be our closest ally (if they weren't plotting against us, which I think they are) or maybe Canada or Australia. But Israel? Hmmm...

What say you of this claim?

I'd say Canada, Australia or England

Japan? I would think Japan would be up there.

Are they even our closest ally in the Middle East?

The Kuwaitis still love us don't they?

Britain is, of course.

Israel is friendly towards America, in a sort of way. But you can't call them an 'ally' in the traditional sense.

Before or after Obama was first elected? I doubt they consider the United States a true ally any longer.

Not our closest ally; Britain is probably the closest ally we have, next to Germany, Canada, Japan and a couple others. in the M.E. we don't have many allies, Kuwait is an ally of necessity, Saudi Arabia is an ally of convenience and I don't trust them as far as I can throw them into a barrel of crude and drop a match into it.

No, but they are our greatest ally in the region.

Of course, most of the rest of the region wants all infidels either dead or as slaves.

The only relationship we have with Israel is that we give them money and weapons and they like it.

Even without Zero in the picture, I wouldn't put them at number 1.  Other countries in the Anglosphere would take up the top spots - Britain, Canada, and Australia in some order.  Probably followed by Japan and eastern euro countries like  Poland?

Poland is another good one. They supported us in Iraq.

Israel is not nor has it ever been our closest ally. If tomorrow Israel disappeared off the face of the earth we wouldn't be in dire straits. Israel needs us more than we need them. I'd say Canada is our closest ally because of our cultural similarities and the fact that they are next door.

Can you buy an sa-80 or an Austeyr F88 at your LGS?

Didn't think so. That's about all I need to know about the UK and Australia.

I'm European and therefore, by definition, anti-Semitic - so take a guess.

Actually, I think the US is an Israeli ally, but Israel is not a US ally, so it's a very one-sided "alliance"

But I am okay with that. Israel should be supported.

Why?

Now that the Cold War is over, they serve no purpose.

Israel is like the roommate that never covers his half of the rent and bangs your girlfriend when he thinks you wont find out.

Not that the notion of friendship is a relevant concept when talking about relations between nation states. Just thought I'd carry on with your shitty premise as the basis for my analogy.

ETA: And I see i have been beaten to the punch. Beaten like a Palestinian-American teenager on vacation. I typed my response without reading the other replies. That several of us came up with essentially the same thought after reading you're post should be a clue OP.

Nope, not hardly. Canada is Five eyes but at the left end of the spectrum. Number One, by a long shot, is UK, then Australia and finally NZ. Canada and France are about in the same boat. Don't kid yourself, there are some great Canadians but their politics are similar to Europeans and they detest us in a similar manner.  The Norges are better allies than Canada.

IMO Israel is to us as North Korea is to China, relationship wise.
