I was offered a semi NIB Taurus Model 66 .357 with a 6in barrel by a friend today. Said it only has been fired a handful of times. Got to see it and it was very clean. Original Academy receipt says $509 but he's asking a firm $350 plus an unopened box of rounds. Should I FO or NO?

Unless he lets you fire it first to verify the timing, I'd walk.  And at that price, you can find a better wheel gun.

Geh.. not for a Taurus.  They tend to develop timing issues unless you use powderpuff loads... If it doesn't come with timing issues out of the box.

I'd pass OP

That's about where I'm at.

My only experience with Taurus is a 905 (85, but 9mm with moon clips).

I love the damn thing. It's not an airweight, but it runs and it's dead nuts accurate, despite it's 2" tube.

If you think you want it, and you're iffy... meet to buy it at a range, and tell the buyer you'll buy a lane and ammo to see it run.

Wheels are hard not to love. It isn't a snake or a Smith, but I say fo. You can always get the thirst, then quench it with another, sexier model.
.357 Mag is just one of those things a man should have, like a good watch, a 4X4, or a loyal dog.

ETA;
It'll probably serve you just fine. I bet it shoots good and works like a clock. And if for some reason it doesn't, sell it during the upcoming Warren/Clinton ticket in 2016 for eleventy thousand dollars on GunBroker.

My one and only wheel gun is a Taurus model 66ss! It has functioned flawlessly for at least 2500rds (maybe I was just lucky)!

The reason I purchased it, was after shooting my father in laws S&W 66. I could not afford the S&W and took a chance back in 2005-2006!

I have a tracker in .44mag, has no issues is accurate and actually fun to shoot (ported barrel).
I like the gun, it does not come close to any of my smith's or my 1 ruger.
No way I would have paid $350 for it new, much less used.

LOL.  Came here to post this.

I have had 2 Taurus revolvers that were the worst pieces of shit imaginable (got rid of them) and one that performs so stellar that you'd swear it was a Smith.

1 in 3 odds is not worth the risk, though.

Owned an 85 that went out time quickly; fixed too many 66s and 669s for friends.

I had a 99 back in the day that wasn't a bad gun at all, friend has a couple wheelguns that have been pretty good as well.

This.

The only use I have for a wheel gun is in heavier calibers (.44 Special or Magnum) or very small/lightweight snubbies for CCW.

4-6" in .357?   Nah.

Agreed.  I wouldn't go near a Taurus after my friends dealings with them on a warranty issue with a Raging Bee.  After 6 months Cabela's gave him a full refund since they never got the gun back

If you are on a budget and can only add one revolver to your collection, you should proceed in this order.

1. Used S&W
2. Ruger
3. Roll the dice on something else and see what you win.

Personally, I don't like rolling the dice.

Negative.

You need to re-access your relationship with your "friend" too.

Friends don't let friends buy a Taurus.

For that price you can get a surplus S&W Model 64 from either Summit or J&G.

I love revolvers.
I'd need a hell of a deal to buy a Taurus, my wife has one from before we were married, a ridiculous 7 shot snub nose, it shot well, til a screw and a handful of important internals it retained were lost.
If you buy the Taurus remove all screws, apply blue loc-tite and re-check before and after every range session.
