Just what I have on patrol now is plenty. Semi AR-15, pump shotgun, handgun. Some ballistic panels in the body of the cruiser would be appreciated, but I don't see the need for an MRAP.

Less than the average citizen is allowed to use, however once they can demonstrate their ability to match the average concealed carry citizens ability to not shoot innocent bystanders I'd be willing to give them equivalent weaponry.

Police should have the same access that the rest of the civilian population that they are serving have access to. However, if a civilian has to file special paperwork with the federal government for possession of an item, it should be off limits to the police.
SBRs require a federal stamp? No SBRs for the local PD. We need to start getting police agencies to be ON the side of the people, not against it. |

Quarters, so they can call the backup from payphone. Seems reasonable as thats what they expect us to do.

Whatever is legal for the average citizen. View Quote Agreed. If it were up to me, I'd say give them suppressed, semi-auto ARs with an optic, a light, and training that doesn't suck. Having your hearing blown sucks, and the last three should be mandatory for anybody who carries a weapon extensively. |

Give the police whatever they want.
But then let me have the same thing. |

I have survived 30 years on my wit and charm.....but the handgun and carbine didn't hurt for the last 13....

I think most police officers would be adequately armed with a 38 revolver in their holster and a pump 12 gauge in the car. Wow I didn't realize Bloomberg had been a member here since 2000... I wish Bloomberg had allowed shotguns. |

Nothing at all. Why help the enemy? The AVERAGE working cop is not the enemy. The enemy is generally further up the chain of command. (Yes there are a few exceptions) You think Cops are out there to protect and serve? More like violate your natural rights and collect a pension. Life is hard the mean streets of KS ! |

The police should be able to have exactly what I am able to have.

The Constitution first.
Then enforce that with anything our military patrol squad uses. BTW - that's what the people should be armed with as well. Could that go a long way toward eliminating the Us vs. Them bullshit ?!?!? |

tanks, artillery, fighter jets, nuclear submarines
you never know what kind of situation may arise |

The same weapons that the people in their jurisdiction are legally allowed to have, including the same NFA items (no new machineguns)

The same as a normal citizen. That said, if a normal citizen can have full-auto in a particular area (as they can in many parts of free America) I see no reason to not allow cops to have the same.

Whatever they need to get the job done, including MRAPS, body armor, M4s, whatever.
Any disagreement I have with how police operate has nothing to do with armament, it has to do with tactics and policy. |

Only weapons that can be legally purchased and owned by law abiding citizens in their jurisdiction on a "cash and carry" basis.
No select fire weapons, no short barrels, and fully compliant with any and all local gun laws including any "assault weapon" bans. I'd have CA cops walking around with bullet buttons and the NYPD loading 7 rounds per magazine. Quoted:

If I can walk into a shop, make a purchase of a firearm, and walk out with it less than an hour later, then I don't have a problem with police having it, whatever it is. |

I'm with the hive. Semi-auto rifles and handguns (and shotguns). No need for panzers and maschinengewehr.

Same as the people. No more, no less. Your damn straight I want my small town cop to have an M16 in his trunk, for the same reason I should have one, that its a damn fine tool for stopping bad guys.

S&W Model 10 and Ithaca Model 37. Oh...and a PR24. Since they only show up after a crime is committed, they only need basic self defense.

Something they are qualified with. My city has officer's on the street that scored in the 30s on the standard qualification.
