Next time you have a really nicely figured piece of wood, you might try using an alcohol based stain before the oil finish. It really makes the grain pop even more. It's what I use on longrifles. |

I cut a M240B receiver from bar stock and that was hard... but cut kit guns are somehow more impressive to me because of the welding I guess... goodGreat job sir... |

Quoted: damn! do you have a parts list, blueprint idea? I'd love to try to make something like that! it's beautiful ! View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: damn! do you have a parts list, blueprint idea? I'd love to try to make something like that! it's beautiful ! The plans would be specific to your area, but it's just pressure treated doug fir framing on piers. The decking is Batu tropical hardwood with Penofin tropical hardwood stain. The railing is a bit tricky, I bought 2" square stainless tubing and fabbed the posts myself. It's a proprietary design but not too difficult for any decent builder to figure out. You can buy the posts pre-cut and drilled but after looking into it there were too many parts for my liking, my way is simpler and cleaner. The railing sections are Cable Rail System, all stainless, and the cap is Ipe cap material finished with the same stain as the deck.

Restocked a Ruger 10/22. Half-round/half octagon barrel, custom brass trigger guard, brass buttplate, back of receiver drilled out for breech cleaning, snabel foreend, relief carving behind cheekpiece and brass patchbox on other side. Next semester I'll mill the dovetails for the front sight and the ladder rear sight. Then the barrel will be blued. http://i846.photobucket.com/albums/ab28/scharf-schutzen/e21ac330-cf17-4184-872d-120c43e15c24.jpg View Quote That's pretty. |

There were a LOT of others involved. It was intense--but not nearly as intense as what our soldiers and Marines experienced. |

Nice work, BTW. It's a Raven P25. The FiL gave it to my wife when she was in college for self defense. We went out, put 20 rnds through it (which were surprisingly trouble free), and tossed it in the back of the safe. I went out and bought her a G19 instead. It's sat for the better part of a decade but don't want to get rid of it on the off chance he asks about it. It's not really worth the trouble to sell it. Maybe I'll get me a $200 grocery gift card at a gun buy back some day..... |
