It looks fantastic but I'm curious about longevity.. ya gotta connect that shit! Only edge glue for the top. The base was glued also. No biscuits, dowels or screws (other than the 4 brass screws for the 2 figure 8's). Yes I did use a table saw. But it apparently had about 1/2 deg. I. The cuts that I found when laying out the top boards. Hand planed it out befor glueing it up. I was temped to not even glue the x supports to the base upright, it was already so rock solid. I had stood on it and the joints would not budge. |

Man! There's some really cool stuff and talented people in this thread.
A couple of my more difficult jobs: I quoted making 500 of these little clips. (Funny enough, they are for repairing a printer. ). I do have some forming experience but this is at another level. I'm good at figuring things out, so I took a shot. Took the prints to a fellow toolmaker who specializes in progressive dies. He takes one look and says," I don't think I would have quoted that one". I made a boat load of money on them. " /> This was a job that another shop had tried to get someone to quote for 6 months. I finally agreed and they surprisingly accepted my obscene price. It was built using the exact same technique that was used in 18th century rifling machines. " /> Stuff I do for fun. " /> " /> Rifle I cut down for the boy for Christmas one year and got a little carried away. The butt has the inside curve of an elk antler, showing. Medallion is the same material which I will NEVER attempt to scrimshaw again. " /> |
