First piece of furniture. Before I attached the top with figure 8's made from chain master links. After 12 coats of linseed oil.

That's beautiful. Details please..

Biscuits? Jigsaw? Planer? Etc?

Rough 6/4 walnut hand planed and jointed, edge glued, I did use a router and pinwheel to make the top perfectly round. Sofented the edges with a rasp and file. Sanded it up to 600...

The base is rough 8/4 hand planed 3 pieces glued up for the center and hand chiseled to lock the cross supports.

I'm not a maccosist! I found hand planing very relaxing....

Interesting.. You left out the table saw bit but that's easy enough to predict.

So all you did was edge glue? No biscuits, pocket screws or dowels? It looks fantastic but I'm curious about longevity.. ya gotta connect that shit!

Awesome design, no shit.. but I'm gonna be the dick and tell you to miter your corners next time.

It's easy, cut them long and creep up on a good miter. Cut them at 46* if you need to, we do it all the time

Yeah, I know what you mean.  I built another one very similar for my sister-in-law that had all 45's and it turned out much better.  I also closed the gaps considerably and it looks much better.  This one was my prototype

This is the main reason I love building shit!  Each project teaches me something whether its a new skill or how to not fuck up

Only edge glue for the top. The base was glued also. No biscuits, dowels or screws (other than the 4 brass screws for the 2 figure 8's). Yes I did use a table saw. But it apparently had about 1/2 deg. I. The cuts that I found when laying out the top boards. Hand planed it out befor glueing it up. I was temped to not even glue the x supports to the base upright, it was already so rock solid. I had stood on it and the joints would not budge.

Man! There's some really cool stuff and talented people in this thread.

A couple of my more difficult jobs:

I quoted making 500 of these little clips. (Funny enough, they are for repairing a printer. ). I do have some forming experience but this is at another level. I'm good at figuring things out, so I took a shot. Took the prints to a fellow toolmaker who specializes in progressive dies. He takes one look and says," I don't think I would have quoted that one".

I made a boat load of money on them.
" />

This was a job that another shop had tried to get someone to quote for 6 months. I finally agreed and they surprisingly accepted my obscene price. It was built using the exact same technique that was used in 18th century rifling machines.
" />

Stuff I do for fun.
" />

" />

Rifle I cut down for the boy for Christmas one year and got a little carried away. The butt has the inside curve of an elk antler, showing. Medallion is the same material which I will NEVER attempt to scrimshaw again.
