This is an email I got after replying to craigslist ad. It a link to a photo album with pics of the bike. It's smells so bad of a scam but my greed is powerful. A Heritage Softail for 2500 bucks.
Hi, Thank you for contacting me regarding my 1996 Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail Nostalgia that I have for sale. This bike is in great shape (10,155 miles).It has no damage, no scratches, dents or hidden defects. It is in immaculate condition, meticulously maintained and hasn't been involved in any accident...I do have the title, clear. I am selling it at this final price of $2,500 because my husband died 1 month ago (he had a heart attack) and it brings me bad memories and that's the reason I want to sell it a.s.a.p. Me and my daughter decided to sell the house and so we moved to my brother in Oklahoma City OK, trying to start a new life. I want to use eBay services for the safety of both of us so if you're interested in purchasing this bike just email me with your full name, address including the zip code and phone number, so I can notify eBay that you are selected as my possible buyer and they will contact you to explain the entire procedure. price too low and full name address crap raises huge red flags. If going through fleebay just hit the buy button. (you said replying to craigslist ad and their reply says fleebay

Of course it is a scam.
Why would the seller want to pay the paypal and ebay fees when you could hand them $2500 in cash tax free? Next thing you know they had to ride the bike to some far off place for a family emergency and they will ship it. You get jerked around and are out a bunch of money trying to get a deal to good to be true. Tell them you will meet them at the local police station with the money and they should bring the bike and title. |

Why would she need his personal details at all? Just create a listing, sit on it and don't post it until a tentative deal is made. Post it and immediately email the link to the prospective buyer.

Things like motorcycles and old cars get sold off pretty often actually. No use for it and some say "reminds them too much" of the loved one.. What you don't do is tell people about the death, moving, where you live now and who with... They are fishing for a phone number.. Then "EBay" will call him to verify the account / payment or something and try and get a CC number or a fee of some sort. |

Also, too much personal information from the "seller". Who would put all that in an e-mail to a stranger? THey're trying to sound vulnerable and trustworthy. Obvious scam. For starters, run the pics through Google Images. If they are random internet pics, you'll most likely be able to find out.

I have never heard of ebay ever contacting anyone for a sale unless you don't pay. You should just meet in person and hand them cash. |

The "woman" is able to describe this bike all too well for somebody that has no interest in keeping it. Way too many details. Throw a curve ball and say you are going to be in the area on business and would like to see it in person. See what kind of a response you get to THAT.

It reminds me of the scams that gained traction 5 years or so ago, where the scammer would take pics of a random vehicle, even copying down the VIN, and claim to be the owner, needing to unload it for a song before deploying to AFG. Earlier poster nailed it, btw: peeBay ain't calling anyone to explain any entire procedure. Best lulz here would be to act real interested, be as accommodating as possible, but politely and naively insist on seeing the bike in person at some location set by you. See how far you can keep them stringing along less and less plausible excuses. |

He forwarded me the emails from this "lady" and it was the same kind of deal, only this "lady" had deployed overseas and had left her car with the eBay shipping people since she needed to get rid of it so quickly. It was already packaged up in a container for shipping, so it wouldn't be possible for him to send someone to inspect it, but that he didn't need to worry because they'd gladly pick it back up if he wasn't happy. It was all I could do to get this guy to understand that there was no way in hell this "lady" would have had trouble selling a $30,000 car for the $6,000 she was asking. I even sent him eBay links to rusted out 65-66 Mustang fastback parts cars that had sold for more than what this "lady" was asking, but he still didn't want to believe it. |

That is almost word-for-word the same as when I tried to buy a car on craigslist.
I got far enough to get a spoof email from eBay motors. I looked at the header info, and it was NOT from eBay. I figured it was a scam, but that was the proof. |

Total scam, I almost got scammed on a 4 wheeler a few years ago. They even sent me the address of local WEstern Union to send them the funds. They had an EBAY page that looked legit, so I called EBAY and they said there was no listing and it was a scam.
