This came on the Radio in the Bar like 10 minutes ago - Anyone else remember this one?

PM DAWN is up there snow and every other early to mid 90's crap. Reminds me of when I was 13 and at the local skating rink.

You didn't call it.

There is no earworm of concentrated shit more virulent than Smashmouth.

ETA: That's not to say that other stuff isn't utter shit.  Smashmouth is simply the worst thing to come out of the 90s.

Right Said Fred is at least funny.  His song practically parodies itself.  (And most would argue that was the intention.)

Smashmouth is auditory smallpox.

As far as big guns, go, the suck there is comparable to civil war artillery.  Plenty of suck.

Smashmouth is an asymmetrical WMD from an advanced alien civilization that destroys universes and leaves nothing behind but eternal suffering in a continuous loop of pain, like some kind of Clive Barkerian nightmare on a scale so unfathomable that it can only exist in theory - it is a thing which is discussed, but cannot be comprehended.  It is beyond the ken of human knowledge, and beyond the scope of even the greatest astronomic measurement.

I'd forgotten how obnoxious that was.  But it's a fucking palate cleanser compared to Smashmouth.

Also, it was used in Fear Effect as a puzzle.

Nickelback is just generic all-purpose synthetic lab-grown rock music.  It's the GMO soy of music.

It's the Bud Light/Coors Light/Michelob Light of music.  You don't really notice it until you hear it, and then you're like "why the fuck am I listening to this?"

Smashmouth is roughly analagous to the taste that would be present in the lysate dripping from the empty eye sockets of the weeks-old diseased corpse hanging on the barbed wire in no-man's-land during the Great War, a corpse chewed on by rats and infected with a hundred different illnesses and coated in war chemicals that rot men from the inside out.

If I were, the "VH1 Behind the Music" would've ended very differently than the usual "the band broke up after the drugs got too bad" and would've ended more like the scene with Marv and Kevin in Sin City.

I just remember the horror of the 90s and hearing that Smashmouth shit broadcast every half second.

It was on everything, and everywhere.  It was used by cheap ad execs in every movie and every TV show and every ad for everything for years.  It was the most virulent, horrible earworm since the larva of that armadillo-horror on Ceti Alpha 6 that was used to mind-control Chekhov and Captain Terrell.

A buddy of mine went to a show Marcy Playground happened to be at - one where Marcy Playground was given good billing with a band that had a lot more staying power and solid fan base (can't remember who, but that covers a lot of bands).  The Marcy Playground people tried to get people in the audience to demand "Sex & Candy"... which no one did.  Left them deflated to say the least.

Around 99 or so, Blink 182 ended up touring as a headliner with Bad Religion.  At a show in Kansas City, half the audience walked out after BR was done with their set, and the Blink 182 douchebags were left wondering wtf happened to "their" audience.

Speaking of Blink 182, they are disciples of suck who worship at Smashmouth's feet, praying every night to their lord of horrible music that one day they will pierce the eardrums of all mankind with their shrill faux-punk shit, but still they pale in comparison to their cacophanous deity of Smashmouth.

Haven't seen that in decades.

I think Vanilla was out flipping houses in Florida by that timeframe.

Then again, he was also stuck in a room with Janeane Garafolo and John Stewart.  Imagine having to put up with those two snide fucks giving you shit for hours before and after recording.
