"SALT LAKE CITY — An Idaho pilot caught at a Utah airport with 180 pounds of marijuana in his small plane has been sentenced to probation and ordered to pay a fine.

Randall Patrick Watson, of Meridian, Idaho, was facing a maximum possible sentence of 20 years in federal prison and a $1 million fine Monday when he stood before U.S. District Judge David Nuffer. Instead, Nuffer put Watson on probation for 50 months and imposed a $25,000 fine, according to court records."

Did this guy become a CI? Are penalties being reduced with the current laws relaxing on marijuana sales?

Good.  No reason to send someone to jail for possession of a plant.

I agree. I wonder if this case is a single outlier or part of a trend.

So instead of using taxpayer's money to incarcerate him, they fine him instead...

Sounds like Utah figured out how to profit to me.

He forfeited the Cessna plane.

DEA, DHS, and KHP tipped my local Sheriff to a jet at the airport with 206 lbs. of "high grade marijuana". Pilot is in jail on $1 million dollar bond.

Nope, these were federal charges.  Utah probably won't see a penny of this money.

Yes, because flying from state to state with 180 pounds of MJ is completely legal outside of Utah.
