I have two SAR-1's, two newer WASRs, SAM7F and a few Yugo m70's . Other than prices, they shoot the same for me and have about the same accuracy. Goes bang every time.
I would like to get my hands on an East German ak (as original as possible)

A build like that is something to be proud of. Unlike a WASR, it can be the centerpiece of your collection. Many countries make nice AKs, but no one does it like the Russians. A piece of art you have right there.

Any build is awesome in my book, but your's is great OP! Did you make the receiver? Definitely more intensive than an AR build, which is really more assembly than building. How about a mac next? I love the practicality of firearms made from sheet metal (not entirely of course).

I took 2 semesters of Russian in school. Had a feeling it might come in handy someday, looks like I may have been right! I love the cyrillic alphabet, and the markings are very appropriate on an AK. I had a sten mag that appeared to have cyrillic markings, could have been Israeli or something else though.

three AK purchases I regret not making
1. Tula AKM prebuilt rifles complete with new CHF/CL Romanian barrels several years back being sold by Atlantic 2. East German MPi-KM kits $250 a couple years back 3. One of the Romanian-made (not IO) Wieger 5.56 clones... a couple years back - gee, I sense a theme here. although I really love AKs and do appreciate the history/work that goes into building an Izzy/Tula AKM, let's get real man.. the Soviet-era Russians are often on par with Romanian AKs - even WASRs - with regards to machining, fit, and accuracy. Russian AKs didn't start to get real nice until the later years of the 74M and 100 series, when Russia started doing a lot of the component milling on CNC machines. |

Those kits were $239 from JoeKen Firearms back in 2004. I bought two, got a 1969 and 1970 Izhmash AKM.

Sweet gun.
I got pics of my 1970 east german Ak build. It's all matching except the recoil spring but it is the correct piston style. Barrel is perfect, most were rough. The kit had 5 percent original finish left. I had it hot blued. I guessed that was what should of been had no idea they were to become so rare. |

The smaller parts are not however they are correct with the exception of the recoil spring which is from a AK47. Barrel condition was really nice. It had been shot but not a lot. This one took me from about 2009 on to find one I had the money for and could be happy with.

The wire folder sets were around $30.00 if memory serves back in the 90s. One thing, if you can still find them buy a extra folder lever. They are prone to breakage. |

When I ordered my receivers both custom S/Ns and selector marks were an option...I think that was in 09(?) right before they stopped doing the customs. |

Very nice OP!
I had one of the East German PLO kits and built it up on a Tapco receiver, It looked good and we had alot of fun firing it, but when the price of those kits started climbing I chopped that puppy up and sold it on Gunbroker for a tidy profit. |
