I've got some Slap Ya Mama seasoning in the pantry, courtesy of my favorite LA cop as part of a cajun care package.

Hmmm...

(EDIT: How in the world did I get inspired all of a sudden to cook breakfast at almost 8pm?)

I have a question about the rice.

Is it plain white rice or spiced in a Cajun fashion?

It's also a pretty common Hawaiian type breakfast as well as something served by Chinese-Americans where I live as an everyday breakfast except they will add more traditional fried rice ingredients like peas etc.

ETA:  My dad was in Hawaii for a year during his 20 year USMC stint and he learned to love eggs over fried rice with bacon, coffee, and toast.  He made it for us as kids quite often.

Bradders, it's just long-grain white rice.  You could also use Jasmine rice if its easier to find in the UK.

As a 2002 Lifer, I realize that most of the junk in many folks dinner pics is both unnecessary and silly.

You only have a few essentials:

1.  Meal, including meat

2.  Eating utensils including knife

3.  Firearm

4.  Beverage

Tape measure, reloads, hammers, staplers, etc are not needed.

This may be apocryphal, but the way I heard it is this:

The first "official" dinner pic was posted by Wave. It was posted at a time when GD didn't exist, and there was some sort of rule that posts had to be firearm related, even if only a little. He posted a pic of his meal, someone called him out on it, he said "fuck it" and took another pic with a gun next to it.

If I have any of that wrong, I'm sure somebody will be along to correct me.

But I think it's pretty close. The "extra" stuff came later.

Yep, that's about it.

People started adding junk like a tape measure, then a yard stick, then a ruler, then a stapler, then other junk.  It got to where you couldn't hardly see the food for the junk.

Food + Gun = Dinner Pic.

Junk.

JUNK?

Fucking kids these days.

You post Cajun food.  A food that is bound by a rich tradition of turning 'junk' in to an envied art form, and you call the Dinner Pic nothing more than junk?

Fuck, fry up some 'Egg-Beaters', heat up some Uncle Ben's, slap some Pace Picante on them and call it a day.

Zhukov and OP are correct. A dinner pic needs nothing more than food and guns. The rest is junk. We have evolved (little as it might be) from the early days.

It was either TREETOP or lordtrader according to some. Maybe someone else but they both claim to first.

Quote from lordtrader:

"Here's something most folks do not know these days. Dinner pics was started by me. The history behind it is this. When I was still living in CA, and dating. This was before this board was ever built. We were still on the old UBB site. I had a dinner date with this girl that stood me up. Well I had a nice pasta dish prepared and decided to take a pic. After eating, I posted it cause I was bored. I believe the title was something to the effect of "what did you have for dinner?" Well EdSr, or was it DonR, sends me an email, asking me if I thought that my pic was gun related. So being a smart ass, I decided to get some of the left overs. Retake the pic with my Glock on the table next to the plate. I then reposted. EMailed back to inform him that it was now gun related. From there it evolved. People started one upping each other with different food stuffs. Then deserts were included. Then after dinner entertainment such as magazines, DVD's, Videotapes. It has gotten to where it is now. I vote we go back to basics. Dinner and Gun. That's it. Give details of the dinner and the gun. "

Quote from TREETOP:

"The first dinner pic was mine, then LordTrader's was next. I only had a handgun, reading material, my meal and beverage, and maybe the TV remote. His was similar.

How it's escalated to what it is now is beyond me."

Both of those posts were from 2004.

I don't know if either was correct. I do like how Dinner pics have evolved.

I don't know when the measuring device and stapler were added. I have heard some say that they are only appropriate for breakfast pics ( and maybe lunch). Supposedly they were there to staple targets to a holder and measure groups. Anyone know who started that?

Plain white rice.

Fried eggs on dirty rice has been my favorite breakfast for years.  I thought I was weird for coming up with that.

I love eggs and rice.  My wife and 10 yr old daughter does too.  Bacon, sausage, or both.  A little hot sauce is good on the side as well.  Pure win.

Unfortunately, we have cut down on white rice and try to eat brown rice.  Man, it just ain't the same.

I do have to try it with the onions.

This isn't Nam OP, we have rules.
I was all set to type a 10 before typing another 10, bisected by one of those "/" symbols. Then I realized the delicious food in this thread was not measured"by tape", nor was it stapled"by stapler", and there was no reload!
Not only that, I'm pretty sure the milk is non-alcoholic!
Why OP.........WHY?
