Well The Taliban once used a plain white flag in occupied Afghanistan in the late 90s.
My gut tells me this is public sarcasm or a symbol of surrender in light of the weakening of the US presence in any current world strife - we seem to have avoided participating in much of any major issue at the moment. Its like the world lost the only cop on the beat and things are getting out of control. |

All that monitoring and surveillance and secret squirrel teams and such, and nobody noticed the flags going up? Someone or multiple someone's managed to scale one of the most iconic landmarks in probably the most heavily monitored city in America (possible exception of D.C.) and no one noticed. I wonder if it's bad to say that I want one of those? I can think of many occassions when it would have been useful to make a point...

That had to be one of the funniest pranks ever pulled...........

That they appear to be whitewashed Stars and Stripes rather than white cloth speaks volumes.
I want to know how they pulled it off. That has to have security's panties really tied in knots |

Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams issued a statement, saying "If flying a white flag atop the Brooklyn Bridge is someone’s idea of a joke, I’m not laughing.” "The public safety of our city is of paramount importance, particularly our landmarks and bridges that are already known to be high-risk targets,” he said. "We will not surrender our public safety to anyone, at any time. Political and social expression, whatever its message may be, has a place in our society, but not at the expense of others’ security.” |

What am I missing? Is it the simple fact someone got away with it under then nose of city security? I don't feel threatened. It could have been a Black ISIS or Al-Qaeda flag. Then he would have a right to worry. |
