I can't really do any spice. Don't like it at all. I'm off the other end of the spectrum on sweets though. Have never had something that was too sweet or too rich.

The only way I can eat a sweet pecan pie is with a big steaming cup of black coffee. Sweet potato pie is right out. My daughter is like me, she loves salted foods, pickled foods and spicy foods. My son cannot even take a little hot, he loves sweets. I think most people lean either towards sweet/mild foods or salt/spicy foods. |

Jalapenos are actually very delicious if you remove the seeds (the hottest part of peppers).
Habeneros are pretty much hot no matter what you do, but still tolerable with seeds removed. Just keep milk handy and it's not so bad. Clears your sinus'! |

It's a very simple concept. You get use to spicy. Spicy becomes not spicy. So you eat spicier food. It's the same reason there are different channels on the TV. People like different things. View Quote As a kid I remember pepperoni seemed hot to me...this last weekend I had Buffalo Wild Wings Ghost Pepper wings. I like my wings as hot as I can, other food I cut the heat to taste the other flavors. |

I really like spicy food, but the problem is, it destroys my guts...I get the lava hershey squirts every time I eat a bunch of spicy things. My question is, does your asshole and GI tract ever get used to eating spicy shit, so that it doesn't destroy you anymore? View Quote Weird thing is, I'm the exact opposite. I've LOVED spicy shit, like ouch my mouth hurts spicy since I was probably 10 years old. Could never get enough of it. It never bothered my digestive tract though, up until..... About a year ago it started getting to the point where lava hershey squirts were happening probably about 5 minutes after eating anything remotely hot. Pretty sure eating spicy shit all the time has caused me to get IBS. Fucking sucks. ETA: Still doesn't stop me from eating it. |

The heat can brin you to a whole new level. Many chilis do indeed have amazing and unique flavors. You just need the proper tolerance to actuay taste it. There is definitely stuff that only provides a chemical burn though. I'm not a fan of that chemical heat flavor.
I don't enjoy cooking for other people all that much because my definition of bland seems to be some folks upper limits. Luckily my FIL loves hot food too. We destroy Thai restaraunts for fun. |

I used to not like really spicy food, but I now love it when I have extremely hot (especially Mexican) food. Not all the time, but about twice a month. I make my own hot sauces and salsa's so I can adjust to what I want. Nothing like salty tortilla chips dipped in a tablespoon of the hot stuff!
The only problem is the next morning.

When I was younger I put hot sauce on EVERYTHING. I kept a bottle in the team room, a bottle in my ruck, and a bottle in my truck. I carried it into the movies and put it on popcorn. I put it on pizza. I would go thru a drive thru and put it on food driving down the road. I'm sure I did permanent damage to my insides! Now, I don't eat that crap. My guts can't take it! I won't eat food that "hurts"- at any point between when it enters my body to when it exits.

If you're not a pussy and used to eating spicy food, the hot peppers actually just add more flavor. They don't cover anything up or make it so hot that you can't taste your food, they just enhances it.
