observations thus far: Atlanta traffic sucks, my wife's new Accord gets great mileage, Atlanta haste an awesome aquarium, Duluth GA has a lot of Korean restraunts, Glock is the coolest company EVER, there are a lot of favors of coke.

Now heading to Charleston now to see Ft Sumter and the Yorktown.

What are the rules for getting sued fed in SC? I'm stopped up.

Typing on an I-pad sucks.

Can't buy more than 3.6 grams of ephedrine per day, or more than 9 grams per 30 days. A 24 pack of extra strength Mucinex-D has 2.88 grams and should last a couple weeks.

Charleston' great. Lived there for 3 years. If you want some decent seafood go to Coast, Fleet Landing, Bowen's Island, or anywhere on Shem creek. DO NOT EAT AT HYMANS OR ANY OF THOSE TOURIST TRAPS AROUND THE MARKET. If you don't want seafood go to Rue de Jean for a good meal. For breakfast try Virginia's on King or Hominy Grill. Get there early to avoid the wait. Go to Sullivan's Island and eat at Hometeam BBQ.

Every town in South Carolina other than downtown Charleston looks like they are filming The Walking Dead there.. All the buildings are boarded up and broke down shit everywhere.. Even Merrills Inlet looks shitty and about to wash away

Dude, please tell me you didn't hit Atlanta traffic between 7-9am or 4-6pm? During other times it sucks, during rush-hour it's soul sucking. As for SC, Charleston is a great destination. In the opposite direction the BMW plant in Gaffney is quite impressive from a manufacturing point of view, you can even tool around the track there for small amount of money.

Plan on 3+ hours to do the Yorktown right. We did all of the above and below deck tours and it took us about that long. DOn't miss the turret exhibit on the Laffey. It was my 8 year old sons favorite part of the day. FYI, Get the smoked wings at Sticky Fingers on the ship for lunch.

The best Asian food in the Southeast is along that corridor. Hae Won Dae FTW.

Only problem is that school's not in session, so you can't watch the Citadel cadets march  (that's on Fridays, though).  I enjoyed all of my trips there while my brother was a cadet, don't forget to visit the CSS Hunley.

I know the above isn't true.

But shitty roads is not a generalization.

Thank's for the input-our hotel is on King Street, so every dinner will be within walking distance.

Gonna Yorktown all day, just me and my son as we are here for a conference my wife is at.  Figure lunch there and drive back, probably do one of the other forts on Friday.  I'm thinking the revolutionary war one.  (Have to keep explaining the difference of the Rev and Civil Wars to my son, hopefully it sticks after this trip.)

Plan to drive back through GA on Saturday and hit the Infantry Museum as a halfway point.  I haven't been to Benning since I graduated in 87.

Anyone been there recently?  Is it on the base proper?  What can I do with my CCW if it is?

The infantry museum is technically on post, you don't pass through a checkpoint to get there though. If you're concealed carrying you're shit out of luck. All firearms that come onto post must be registered, even if you're just visiting or going to a range. Take that as you will.

I would hazard that Columbus and Benning haven't changed since you were there. Columbus is still a shithole with the highest property crime rate of any city in the entire United States of America. Victory Drive is still a scumbag haven lined with payday loan shops and the worst strip clubs you've ever seen

It was a couple of hours out of the way, I've always wanted to see it and run it but wasn't gonna derail the family trip that much. I don't have a Microtech Currahee either :-(

Had a great time at Patriot Point today.  Was a good day with the boy.

BMW is in Greenville. That's about 40m from Gaffney. To his point though you can go into the 'Zentrum' for free outside of BMW's sole manufacturing presence in NA. It's basically a BMW museum. Greenville itself though is a very modern and upscale city with an incredible downtown. Definitely worth checking out if you are going through upstate SC on I85.

Also home of a Palmetto State Armory store, Cabellas, etc., tons of great food and a minor league baseball team, whose stadium is a mirror of Fenway.

Somehow I know you haven't been to all parts of SC..... While there are certainly plenty of crappy places out in the sticks (like much of America, frankly), there's also a few pretty nice ones, not just Charleston.

Am I the only person in the world to notice that Charleston SC has one of the highest percentages of hot women walking the street in the world?  I mean, seriously.  I'm remarkably content in "old married man mode" but this is seriously noticeable.
