Recently the Sierra Club asked the Boy Scouts to remove both fishing merit badges from their long list of merit badges. The Reason: Both merit badges teach a boy how to catch and clean a fish. Apparently they feel that cleaning a fish which involved removing the intestines, teaches a boy about animal cruelty and they somehow are related to the school shootings at Columbine and Santana High Schools. Fish, People- If anyone can find the connection just let me know. http://www.sierraclub.org/ Oh yeah, feel free to write them and let them know they need to get heads out of their ass.

I just had salmon for dinner and it was good. I bought it in the store and it was cleaned already. Must have been that butcher that practices animal/fish cruelty. I like fish, I'm glad it was cleaned already and cut into a fillet. My conscious is clear. I guess The Sierra Club wants Scouts to eat the fish like a bear. I remember in biology class we had to disect frogs, earthworms and perch. I'm glad I didn't turn into a chronic animal abuser. Oh ya, I miss my dog! Well, time to look at their site for the 411.

Every one is down on the Scouts. I wish I had money like Ross Perot or someone, I would love to give them a few Millions. I would be in better company with a group of scouts in a desert than with a bunch of these gay tree hugging animal rights THINGS at the best placed table in the world.

Unbelievable, Me and my Father was considering starting a new Boy Scout Troop for our rural area, a few months ago. Now I'm not so sure I wan't to go through with it,(dad still does). You know its a shame that one of the biggest organizations for teaching young men to become good men is under so much scrutiny. I guess morals and other things I was raised by aren't "the thing to do" anymore. Cleaning fish, gimme a break.

What a bunch of crap. These Sorry Club bastards need to understand that, just because they don't hunt and fish for their food, that doesn't mean someone out there isn't filleting that mahi-mahi for them to eat with a senator while lobbying to close more wilderness areas to hunting and fishing. I have butchered or gutted hogs, chickens, deer, sheep, a javelina, rabbits, squirrels, dove, quail, fish, turkeys and ducks. However, it drives me nuts to see people being needlessly cruel to animals. There is no connection between the two things. Kids have assisted their families for years on farms and in hunting with no resulting tendency toward cruelty. These Sierra Club folks are a solution in search of a problem. Semper Fidelis Jarhead out.

Not that I would do this, but if one were to go to the PETA wesite and request information on becoming a vegetarian they might eventually receive a postage paid return envelope for a donation that they could attach to a brick that would cost PETA a "helluva" lot for first class return postage, but not that I would do that. Consider it a counter-terrorist action.

Well they are not going to stop at fish rights. Several years ago the enviromentalists here in Utah were protesting stocking trout in the streams of the Uinta Mountians because they were not actually native to the area, and they were disrupting the activities of a truly indigenous species. The tormented species? MOSQUITOES! The fish were eating the damn mosquitoes! I know I have constantly been disappointed with my expeditions into those mountains by not having enough mosquitoes to enjoy. Nuts! Their freaking nuts! Watch-Six

The Sierra Club has deviated from John Muir's original intent. He must have hunted while wondering through the Sierra range.

I say keep it, and add the "Gutting a Sierra Club Member Like a Fish" merit badge.

You mean you don't feel like committing Mass Murder after cleaning fish. Damn I must be the only one. [:D] [sniper]

I send the Sierra Club pictures of every animal I kill while hunting, and now I'll start sending them pictures of every fish I catch (gutted of course). My favorites so far are one with a skinned coyote that looks like it is grinning (the note read "see, he is happy I did it") and one of my dad, my brother, and myself behind a pile of about a hundred ducks we had shot that weekend (the note read "hunting brings families together"). A friend of mine in Kali told me that a while back they were protesting catch and release fishing because it was cruel, give me a break. God I hate animal rights nuts with a passion. Kyle

AAARRRGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! Jesus Harry Christ! I remember when the boy scouts actually taught kids something useful. How to navigate by the stars, tie knots and survive in the woods(well kinda). All useful skills for when the day comes that you need to rely on yourself. Now they are trying to cram fags into the program and neuter the kids mentally. Real survival ain't like that bullshit show where you compete for the buffet by who can throw a frisbee farthest! The result is, today you have grown MEN who cannot even operate a f*ckin' compass and couldn't find their own ass if you let them use both hands. I swear, when I have kids I'm home schooling them until High School to save them from the bullsh*t!

did not see any info about this even after several searches of their site

Actually, as an Eagle Scout, I'd like to respond to this. The Boy Scouts are NOT admitting queers. They are NOT giving up the Fishing merit badge. They are NOT giving up the Riflery or Shotgun Shooting merit badges, either. You STILL have to know how to operate a compass to advance in rank. You STILL need to know how to survive. All of these goofy "ideas" and "recommendations" that are made by PETA, the Sierra Club, ACT UP, and all other deviant groups are NEVER TAKEN SERIOUSLY by the Boy Scouts of America! Don't worry, SteyrAug. Nothing is gonna change. Mike

around here, the boyscouts are almost nonexistant. thats one of the problems with punk ass kids today. i wish i had been in the boyscouts when i was of the age. if some of these little asshole kids running around had real values instilled in tehm once in their future welfare ass(god knows their parents aint gonna do it) it seems to be a sign of the times. "mom, i dont wanna go the boy scouts and learn fishing and survival, i wanna listen to kid rappers and play video games and pretend im a "gangsta"

Hey, I was in the Scouts for nearly five years and let me tell you, if it wasn't for the Boy Scouts of America... I'd probably be out spending nearly all of my valuable time on a computer or in the woods shooting up my big boy toys! [8D]

Steyr, you are not supposed to learn survival skills as this will make you a threat to the liberal movement. Don't you know by now that you are to become dependent on the government to provide for you. Besides, they don't want us to be able to find our A$$, they will find and pack it for us without charge. If you doubt that, look what the clintonistas did to us. Freedom through independence!!!

Actually, this was timed with the release of the new merit badges, "Don't lay with a gay", and the now famous, Protect the environment, recycle a greenie as compost, badges!"

Counter-Terrorism like this is a great approach. I ENJOY spending their money for them with them getting NOTHING in return except some useless return mail that they have to dispose of. Maybe we all could practice this and bankrupt them in the process. Beat the bastards at their own game. Now that would be satisfaction! [-!-!-] Finnbear out

Yeah, all of the boy scouts I was in the troop with grew up to be successful, productive members of our society. They work, raise kids, and pay their taxes. Man, you don't want to have to many of those guys around. You might have a stable, utopian society if you do that. No, better to program people with a bunch of illogical bullshit that teaches people to inforce the "right" beliefs on others if they want them or not. Sort of ironic that the scouts, being into conservation and the preservation of our natural heritage should be at odds with the sierra club. Aren't the scouts one of their biggest allies? Guess that doesn't mean much when you are funded well. I guess all the sierra club really preaches is that money is more important than truth.
Link Posted: 4/29/2001 8:14:00 PM EDT
I was mistaken about the Sierra Club it was really PETA. It is all still rediculous. And further, the day that they prove that the scouts start producing killers and upstanding citizens is the day I take all my guns down to the police department.

The entire socialist agenda makes you sick, doesn't it? I wish I had been in the Boy Scouts. BTW, you can and should homeschool through High School. I was(and rather recently, so I remember it), and now college is going very well, and I have no social hangups, either. Nothing in high school that can't be taught at home, especially with the support groups and the internet for info on tricky subjects. 'Scuse me for going OT, but I thought you might want to know.

I think the Boy Scouts of America is great for teaching boys to be reponsible. I was one for many years and worked as a counselor for a few years. I think if more poeple spent time with kids and went camping and fishing like that is tuaght in the Boy Scouts I would lay every dime I have on it that there would not be half the problems we have in society today.
