Once I get my Mk4, I will weigh my rifle with a billet lower and a forged lower. I'm curious what the weight difference is.

Oh there's nothing lightweight about it

ETA

The UBR probably weights more than the upper and lower combined

But the ATRS lower is nice and light, and the Vltor upper being a thicker walled forging is nice. It balances really nice how it is with the 16" barrel

Gay combo. This is what you should strive for instead:

Yeah... not a fan of billets. Just don't like how many of them don't have much in terms of handguard options and such that will fit them.

That's one reason I like the Vltor, the front 1/4" is cut out to the same shape as a standard forged upper, it's just got a bit more meat in the side walls and over the cam pin. Not that a standard forged isn't more than adequate!

I was sort of pissed that the gunsmith hadn't turned the barrel down thinner between the gas block and muzzle but I just pulled out the calculator and did some science; it would have only saved me 1.6oz. I think the bigger savings would be in a light weight buffer/bolt and receiver combo, although if I were to go all out on the receiver, I would go all out on the barrel too. If only those carbon fibre wrapped barrels weren't so damned expensive

Yeah i know! Proof Research makes some really nice tubes

If they weren't garbage quality, those Mag Tactical magnesium lowers are kinda cool for 30-ish% weight savings over a forged.

One day I will make an absurdly lightweight rifle. A guy I know has done this path and I think even got his bolt carrier machined down in some spots and an adjustable gas block. ALG Defense handguard IIRC, it's a nice really light setup.

Still not finalized, need to decide on whether to keep the TA31R/RMR combo and head the thermal route, split it up or sell it to fund a 33. I’ve got an Aimpoint I can put on as well but would like to go the magnified route for my tired old eyes.

As soon as I figure out which bipod I'm getting, this will fit the criteria for a CWAR-DMR.

Why you think it's a bad choice? It's lighter and lower profile than a harris.

So Atlas, then!

If loco listened to you guys, he'd end up a heroin addict living under a bridge with only his case of ebolaids for company.
