Not good if true. The above video, posted on the 24th of June, shows combatants in Syria’s western city of Hama firing a 9K32M (NATO reporting name: SA-7b) man-portable air defence system (MANPADS) with a non-standard battery attached. Other instances of improvised batteries being used with MANPADS have previously been documented in Syria, with one video released by Free Syrian Army (FSA) militants demonstrating how they were able to jury-rig a series of motorcycle batteries in order to fit a 9K32M. Another video shows rebels using a 9K32M with an improvised battery being used to successfully engage and bring down a helicopter.
More recently, Syrian rebels posted images to Facebook showing a self-contained rechargeable battery pack believed to be designed to fit the 9K32 and 9K32M systems (see image gallery below). While the post has now been removed, the group posted brief technical specifications claiming the unit weighs 370 grams and allows a targeting window of 30 minutes, significantly longer than the original batteries. With MANPADS documented in Syria often over 40 years old, original batteries may be have deteriorated or been damaged, making improvised solutions attractive. http://www.armamentresearch.com/improvised-manpads-batteries-employed-in-syria/ Anybody else reminded of this discussion from a month ago? http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_1_5/1635364_ISIS_captures_US_made_Stinger_MANPADS_from_Iraqi_Army_.html&page=5#i47802981 wow, i was assured that can't be done Necessity always finds a way. |

Attack on Iraq prisoner convoy kills dozens Prisoners and policemen among 60 killed north of Baghdad during attack on bus transferring convicts, police say. At least 60 people have died in clashes after suicide bombers and fighters attacked a bus transferring convicts from a prison north of Baghdad, according to Iraqi police. Security and medical officials said on Thursday that about 50 prisoners were among the dead, many of them burnt beyond recognition. A number of policemen also died. "At least 60 people, prisoners and policemen, were killed in a suicide attack followed by several IEDs (improvised explosive devices) and shooting," an Interior Ministry official told the AFP news agency. It was not immediately clear who launched the assault, which targeted a security convoy escorting a bus that was transferring the 60 prisoners, many of them held on terrorism charges, from the main prison in Taji, roughly 25km north of Baghdad. http://www.aljazeera.com/news/middleeast/2014/07/attack-iraq-prisoner-convoy-kills-dozens-201472465522620675.html |

Iraqis: Jihadis destroy ancient mosque in Mosul
BAGHDAD (AP) — Islamic extremist militants blew up a revered Muslim shrine traditionally said to be the burial place of the Prophet Jonah in Iraq's second-largest city, Mosul, on Thursday, residents of the city said. The residents said the Islamic State militants, who overran Mosul in June and imposed their harsh interpretation of Islamic law on the city, first ordered everyone out of the Mosque of the Prophet Younis, or Jonah, then blew it up. The mosque was built on an archaeological site dating back to 8th century BC and is said to be the burial place of the prophet, who in stories from both the Bible and Quran is swallowed by a whale. http://news.yahoo.com/iraqis-jihadis-destroy-ancient-mosque-mosul-161047450.html |

Iraqi jihadists order genital mutilation of all women
Geneva (AFP) - Jihadists in Iraq have ordered that all women between the ages of 11 and 46 must undergo female genital mutilation, which could affect up to four million women and girls in the war-ravaged country, a UN official said Thursday. The UN's second most senior official in Iraq, Jacqueline Badcock, said, "It is a fatwa (or religious edict) from ISIS, we learnt about it this morning. We have no precise numbers." http://news.yahoo.com/jihadists-iraq-order-women-undergo-genital-mutilation-002205853.html |

Iraq: al-Maliki rejects Iran's urging to step down
BAGHDAD (AP) — Iraq's Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki rejected an attempt by Iran to persuade him to step down, senior Iraqi politicians said Wednesday, underlining his determination to defy even his top ally to push for a third term in office and further exacerbating the country's political crisis. Al-Maliki has for weeks been resisting growing pressure for him to step aside, including from former Shiite political allies and from Iraq's top Shiite spiritual authority. His critics see the Shiite prime minister as too divisive to form a government that can win support from the Sunni minority against the militant-led Sunni insurgency that has seized control of a large swath of the country. But the recent meeting between al-Maliki and Iran's pointman in Iraq, senior general Ghasem Soleimani, was the first sign that Iran also believed he should go. Iran was crucial for al-Maliki in winning a second term four years ago, when Tehran used leverage over Shiite parties to ensure their backing for him during grueling negotiations over a government at the time. http://news.yahoo.com/iraq-al-maliki-rejects-irans-urging-step-down-211319735.html |

Not sure if it's a sign of strength or stupidity that ISIS wants so many fronts.
The Kurds would most likely rather hold their ground rather than advance against them so it's good for the Iraqi government that forces are being tied up in the north. I guess it shouldn't be surprising but really thought that the IRGC would have helped stem them much more than this but well, maybe I gave too much credit to the guys who stalemated Iraqis for 8 years. I guess we know shit will have got serious when they start putting headbands on little kids to charge ISIS... In other great news,I read that Shia militias have threatened the US and UK to leave their embassies or face attack. That would be par for the course: try to fight Americans and Brits rather than the guys who are going to be sawing your heads off in 3 weeks at this rate. That would be a brilliant tactical decision... Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

Because Muslim people can see that the Muslim world is fucked. But, they believe that God has ordained that Muslims follow the Muslim rules of life as revealing in the Koran. But, the West is powerful, wealthy and inventive, despite the fact they are godless, deviant, hedonistic and soft. So, the West is in league with Satan to hold down the Muslims, and in holding them down, purposely denies the creation of a great Muslim state. One of the arguments of the Muslim Democracy Strategy is that Muslim populations could be made somewhat accountable for their own suckitude, because the populations do have the argument that for decades they've been led by a collection of stooges that acted like royalty, or royal stooges. Islamic State jihadists open 'marriage bureau'
Beirut (AFP) - The Islamic State, which advocates public stoning for adultery, has opened a "marriage bureau" for women who want to wed its fighters in territory they control in Syria and Iraq. The jihadist group's office is operating from Al-Bab, a town in Aleppo province of northern Syria, for "single women and widows who would like to marry IS fighters", said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. The Britain-based monitoring group, citing residents, said interested parties were being asked to provide their names and addresses, "and IS fighters will come knocking at their door and officially ask for marriage". The IS has also expanded into tourism, taking jihadists on honeymoons and civilians to visit other parts of its "caliphate". Running twice-weekly tours from Syria's Raqa to Iraq's Anbar, IS buses fly the group's black flag and play jihadist songs throughout the journey. http://news.yahoo.com/islamic-state-jihadists-open-marriage-bureau-153411145.html |

U.S. judge signs order to seize Kurdish oil from tanker off Texas
HOUSTON (Reuters) - Acting on a request from the central government in Iraq, a U.S. judge has signed an order telling the U.S. Marshals Service to seize a cargo of oil from Iraqi Kurdistan aboard a tanker off the Texas coast, court filings showed on Tuesday. The United Kalavrvta tanker, carrying some 1 million barrels of crude worth about $100 million, arrived near Galveston Bay on Saturday but has yet to unload its disputed cargo. The ship, which is too large to enter ports near Houston and dock, was given clearance by the U.S. Coast Guard on Sunday to transfer its cargo offshore to smaller boats that would deliver it to the U.S. mainland. But Iraq's central government, in a court filing on Monday, laid claim to the cargo that it says was sold by the regional government of Kurdistan without permission from Baghdad, which has said such deals amount to smuggling. http://news.yahoo.com/u-judge-signs-order-seize-cargo-kurdish-oil-075426123.html |

In Iraq's Mosul, radicals unleash their vision
BAGHDAD (AP) — Residents of Mosul have watched helplessly as extremists ruling the northern Iraqi city blew up some of their most beloved landmarks and shrines to impose a stark vision of Islam. Next up for destruction, they feared: the Crooked Minaret, a more than 840-year-old tower that leans like Italy's Tower of Pisa. But over the weekend, residents pushed back. When fighters from the Islamic State group loaded with heavy explosives converged on the site, Mosulis living nearby rushed to the courtyard below the minaret, sat on the ground and linked arms to form a human chain to protect it, two residents who witnessed the event told The Associated Press on Monday. They told the fighters, If you blow up the minaret, you'll have to kill us too, the witnesses said. The militants backed down and left, said the witnesses, who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of retaliation from the militants. But residents are certain the militants will try again. http://news.yahoo.com/iraqs-mosul-radicals-unleash-vision-173740162.html |

I think the three main combatants will fall into a war of attrition while they try and consolidate their gains. The Kuwaitis aren't going to do jack shit on their own other than wait to be invaded. The House of Suad isn't doing jack shit outside their own border without the US to back them up, which aint happening. The thing to remember is no outside influence is going to split up Iraq, it's being split up right now by the three actors in the area that have the military power to do so. Whether any one of them can hold what they gain in the long term remains to be seen. |

It was an hour of rehashing the war and "Bush's fault" then a half hour of Obama made it worse. Anyhow, what Ryan Crocker had to say at the end gave me chills. It's nothing that we don't already know, but disturbing to hear from him. He talked about how ISIS is Al Queda 6.0, how they are many multitudes worse and more powerful than Bin Laden's crew ever was, the resources they have captured, and how hundreds of them have US Passports. Basically, how we have accomplished nothing, and the threat of terrorism is now higher. All that blood was for nothing. Part of me thinks that he is just saying that because he was in the Bush crowd, and wants to lay all the blame on Obama. I think the truth is, 90% of ISIS power comes from Iraqi Sunnis who don't give a shit about America as long as we aren't there. They are more concerned with their domestic issues. I hope. Iraqis have wanted and needed a civil war since we invaded and removed Saddam. And unless they can find their equivalent of a Shia Nelson Mandela, or a Sunni Abraham Lincoln, they aren't going to last as a country, but will split into two or maybe three. |

Islamic State jihadists open 'marriage bureau' Beirut (AFP) - The Islamic State, which advocates public stoning for adultery, has opened a "marriage bureau" for women who want to wed its fighters in territory they control in Syria and Iraq. Running twice-weekly tours from Syria's Raqa to Iraq's Anbar, IS buses fly the group's black flag and play jihadist songs throughout the journey. http://news.yahoo.com/islamic-state-jihadists-open-marriage-bureau-153411145.html View Quote Guess they ran out of sheep? |

View Quote Didn't watch the show unfortunately but what Crocker said is spot on. ISIS is well financed, well lead, very motivated and their success in Syria and especially Iraq has been a boom for recruiting. Its a good thing they are being kept reasonably busy in Iraq and Syria. When and if things ever start to settle down for them over there is when they are going to have some extra manpower sitting around and a lot of those western passport holders may be tasked with returning home and causing a lot of problems. It could very well happen before then as they get more experienced westerners but what we don't want is idle minds sitting around over there dreaming up ways to kill the great satan. |

However, I think even the biggest proponents of the Democracy strategy failed to account for the general level of derangement within the Muslim world. In other great news,I read that Shia militias have threatened the US and UK to leave their embassies or face attack. That would be par for the course: try to fight Americans and Brits rather than the guys who are going to be sawing your heads off in 3 weeks at this rate. That would be a brilliant tactical decision... Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile In order to win the fight, you have to get the support of the people. For some reason, people adhering to the religion of peace are attracted to the idea of fighting westerners whereever they are, regardless their actual threat. there would be a lesson in this for those who seek long term solutions to this issue, but I doubt it will be seen. Actually, the way he said it was even better, I found it on the PBS website: "Frontline: And the consequences are? How dangerous a situation is it? Crocker: This is analogous to Afghanistan, say, in August 2001. And this time, it is Al Qaeda version 6.0. They make bin Laden's 2011 Al Qaeda look like Boy Scouts. They are far stronger; they are far more numerous. They have thousands who hold foreign passports and require no visas to get into the United States or other Western countries. They are well funded, they are battle-hardened, and they are well armed. And they now control far more territory exclusively than bin Laden ever did. They have the security; they have the safety to plan their next set of operations; and they are a messianic movement. Believe me, they are planning those operations. That's why the Saudis moved 30,000 troops up to their border. They know that ISIS wants Mecca and Medina. They also want to come after us. And I can tell you, as we sit here today in Washington, they're sitting in Mosul figuring out how they're going to get at us next." The whole article is on the PBS website, and most of the rest of the information from the episode. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/iraq-war-on-terror/losing-iraq/ryan-crocker-our-national-security-is-at-stake-right-now/ Really in depth information from all of the Senior Iraq guys from the Surge and earlier below the Secdef (Keane, Petraeaus, Crocker...). All of our time, effort, money and blood to respond and prevent another 9-11... Looks like we are primed for another, and once again the Army won't be ready, since we are tearing it down as fast as possible. If ISIS is smart, they will plan and prepare for a few more years and wait until they are at their strongest, and we are completely gutted. Fuck. I guess we will at least have some F35's if we decide to bomb China. |

The question is: Are they wanting to hit us in dramatic fashion with something akin to 9-11 or are they willing to hit us with smaller scale attacks like the Nairobi, Kenya mall attacks? Personally I believe a multitude of small scale attacks like the Nairobi mall attacks would have a much broader effect on the American populace than something like 9-11. Especially if they could continue them sporadically over a period of months spread out over the map. |
