classic HBO titles like The Wire and The Sopranos and, eventually, back-seasons of current HBO favorites like Girls and Veep exclusively to Amazon Prime customers.

It's a good thing fro Prime but doesn't really replace HBO go. I want to watch current seasons... currently.

Think I might drop Netflix and just keep Prime.  I rarely see something on Netflix that isn't on Prime.

"The two companies said that previous seasons of current HBO titles — like Girls, The Newsroom and Veep — will become available over the course of the multi-year agreement, approximately three years after airing on HBO. The cable network said that the programming will remain available on all HBO platforms."

Cool, but THREE YEARS?  Ain't nobody got time for dat.

3 years wait to watch current stuff?

Why doesn't HBO partner with Amazon or Netflix to offer current content. I would gladly pay an extra $15 to whoever for HBO streaming, then I could drop cable.

I think the Girls show could come in handy. If I eat something that turns out to be poisonous and I need to make myself barf.

Shit, I'm not one to complain.  I don't have HBO so I'm not mad about past seasons of current shows.

I'm just excited to be able to watch The Wire and Sopranos.

Deadwood and Oz are the only HBO shows I've seen in their entirety.

Good news. Our verizon contract just ran out so we are dumping cable soon and going internet only, this gives even more options.

You can...if you have HBO (AppleTV includes HBOGo).

Since Amazon introduced their own set-top box, I think we're going to see their Prime Video selection add a lot of quality content.

Amazon has the muscle to compete with Netflix.  At first Instant Video was just a nice perk for Prime shipping, but as their business continues to grow, I think Prime will start to have even more benefits than just free TV/Movie streaming and free/low cost shipping.

You can purchase very recent stuff to stream through the instant video app.

There is some country that has stand alone HBO can't remember. We don't have it because of the broadcast companies. Amazon needs to hire all the HBO writers and call it a day.

I meant $15/month which I think is the current rate for HBO after you all the BS cable access fees.

Got an idle laptop?  Set it up by the TV, connect them via HDMI, get a wireless keyboard (like this one), and you're all set.  I do this and it works great for all services that stream across the web.

Except for really low bitrates from ISP throttling.

Netflix (before I dumped it) = 1mbps (quality sucked)

Amazon Prime = 10mbps (quality is good)

I do miss 'Orange Is the New Black.'  I can still go back and watch Season 1 elsewhere, but it would be nice to see Season 2 as it airs in June.

Because they know that the cable industry and fucking "bundling" is the only reason they are still in business.  They won't bite the hand that feeds them.

I'm personally thrilled about Netflix original series like Orange is the new black and House of cards, because it's putting companies like HBO on notice.  It's not just the networks they have to compete with now.

Ding ding ding...

Cable providers pay HBO a LOT of money. Remember it is a subsidiary of time warner. With the possible Commcast Time warner merger down the road It will be even less likely for HBO to go direct consumer. http://www.wired.com/2014/04/7-limits-the-fcc-should-impose-on-a-comcast-time-warner-merger/
