Cross posted from tac gear
---------------
I picked up a pelican 1450 yesterday at a surplus shop that was originally used for a laptop or sat phone.
There are holes drilled into the top and a large cutout in the back, below the hinges - probably 2.5" high and 7" long.

Definitely too small for a hooker and the blow would fall out.
Any ideas on what to use it for?

Deep enough for two layers of crap?
or maybe just ammo on the bottom and then foam on top?

I'm not in the mood to build a foam hot wire cutting table and pick and pluck is dildos

Throw a Glock in there. Don't bother with foam or anything fancy, it's a Glock. It wants to be abused.

Epoxy it shut, carry mags.

or

Leave it as-is, mount a weapon in it, and make an HK-Briefcase type gun.

Just get a thick piece of kydex from Knife Kits.  $5 bucks a sheet, various colors/thickness and they are good people.  I've ordered a lot of holster making stuff from them.

This is what I would do. Bolt on a piece of kydex using the existing holes and seal with silicone before you bolt it on.

Break the top off and send it to Pelican..

Their customer service is 100% top notch. They are located about a mile from me and will replace anything for just about any reason..

They may not replace it because of the holes but if the lid was broken off the holes wouldn't matter, they will replace it free.

I took a flashlight in once to get some spare bulbs.. The lady looked at my light and said "it's dirty" went in the back and grabbed me a new light, a handful of bulbs and gave them all to me, including my old light.. Score!!!

Good people.

ETA: don't want to come across as selling but James' inbox is full

Let me back pedal, a 1170 or 1200 is what I want.
I can get a 1200 on amazon for $39 shipped.
If you can cover the cost of $39 shipped for a 1200 and we'll split the shipping on the 1450 to you, the 1450 is yours.

Turn it into a self contained radio.  The opening looks about the size of a car stereo.  Mount batteries in the bottom, and a pair of speakers on the lid.

In my last job, I built Radio interoperability gateways and often built them into slightly larger Pelican or Storm Cases.  I often used outmoded/stripped kits to make tool boxes or cases for the sales/service guys. I'd just cut out a plate of steel or aluminum, paint to match and bolt it in with the existing holes. Given the size of the box, you could use it for Travel TSA gun case, range ammo, car kit of many varieties(tools, 1st aid, etc)

G'luck

I wish I understood technical jargon better:

Can drive about six inches below 60W speaker two groups.

I'd just bolt on a plate of metal or similar ABS, and seal the edges with RTV.

I keep one with a small AGM battery and a Yaesu FT7800 mounted inside.  I used a cheap, butchered 1450, as well.  Works great for mobile use.

ETA: Very similar to the setup posted above.
