Even putting together a mix CD, I can't think of a mere 74 minutes worth of music that I would be content listening to exclusively, for an entire year in the car.

Yeah I had to do the same, I have a 3.5mm cord that runs from the back of the console now to the center. Kinda goofy but it works. I don't even remember the last time I listened to an actual CD. |

This is now a DT discussion thread because all other bands pale in comparison. TOT was good, no doubt. But, the diversity, the arrangements, the sound landscape and textures, the flow of the story etc on SFaM put it ahead, imho. IaW was spectacular for their "debut" album. Some really awesome songs on there. But, I prefer the epic style of pieces like SFaM or 2112 or other "entire album concept pieces". That's one of the things interesting about DT. They bring fans from metal, prog, and other styles because they have such a diversity of songs and pieces. (music without words is not a song) |

ToT was good, it was just kind of missing some of the epicness that made SFAM and IAW so awesome IMO. |

DT tries to be epic but fails, so that's the disconnect.
There's actual epic metal and then there's DT. People built off of DT's formula to reach epic metal heights, but DT never made it there themselves. It's kinda like how Zeppelin influenced metal but never played it themselves. |

Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence was less than stellar (although the auxiliary cd was decent to good). I think every music junkie has certain bands or pieces that just synch with their soul. I can listen to bands similar to DT but they don't make me feel the same way. Rush is another. That's one of the great things about music. |
