You guessed it: the neighborhoods on the city’s murderous South and West sides, which are disproportionately black and brown." " Between 2007 and 2012 the murder rate in the most dangerous of Chicago’s official community areas was 40 to 80 times higher than the rate in the tonier, quieter area’s Chicago’s north side. We’ve all heard of income inequality. Hertz calls this: “murder inequality.”

He looked at 40 years of median family income data in Chicago, broken down by race and neighborhood. What he found makes it possible, he argues, “to watch Chicago’s middle class vanish before your eyes.” Well he got one thing right. Check the statistics and you will see that the producers are leaving the city (and IL as a whole). The numbers are hidden, and nobody talks about them, but they are there. Example - from 2000 to 2010 the population of Chicago fell 6.8% while the country as a whole grew 9.8%. Look at the median income of Chicago. http://www.city-data.com/city/Chicago-Illinois.html In 2000 it was $38,625 in 2011 it was $43,628 ......but did income really grow? NO. In real dollars income fell - A LOT. Plug that year 2000 income into the CPI calculator and you'll see that you need $50,454 in 2011 to equal the purchasing power. So in reality Chicago has gotten smaller and poorer. To be fair the real median income of the country fell during the same time period - but not nearly so much as that in Chicago. Chicago is is a slow motion death spiral, but very few in the media are willing to point it out, and none of the pols is willing to address the problem. They get re-elected with the same old liberal policies that caused middle class families to flee the city so what do they care? |

Birds fly, fish swim, deer run....and certain segments of the population are more violent and more involved in criminal behavior than others.
The social engineers rack their brains trying to figure out why, although we have "equality in", we do not have "equality out". In other words, all children in the US are given a free public school education, but we do not see all races equally represented in the upper end jobs and careers. This drives the social engineers crazy. Because of this, they will never stop tinkering with society, the law, the schools, our lives, etc. They will never stop because they do not understand that fish swim and birds fly. |

Chicago is close to 30% white, 30% black, and 30% brown. 2. The "tonier, quieter areas" on Chicago's Northside are that way because the northside isn't full of people who make it less tony and quiet. People like Hertz talk about bad neighborhoods as if the reason they are bad is because of air that hovers over the neighborhood, or the color of the houses, or species of trees that grow there.
