I wasn't gonna post on this but there were some incredible words of wisdom in another thread that really hit home with me.
"When you struggle at life you seek comfort in alcohol. I'd say that is a good sign that maybe you have an unhealthy relationship with the "hooch". A simple life is a good life. " Fella 4-20-14 I have 2 years sobriety today, I'm not gonna lie there are times I struggle with it. There are Friday nights I would love to get smashed but I know ultimately it will complicate my life and not in a good way. Life is good, sobriety is good. If you don't have issues with booze, more power to ya I envy you. If you do think you have a problem, give sobriety a shot, life will be more simple AND because of sobriety it will continue to simplify. You can do it, and life will be what it should. |

Outstanding! I've been sober 8 years come 26 August 2014. Every day is a challenge and I'm winning so far.

Congratulations, keep strong. Over 12 years here, (alcohol), almost 4 years off tobacco, but I physically cannot stop (legally prescribed) narcotic pain killers due to permanent leg damage in a car wreck.

Congratulations, and keep it up. You and your family and friends will all be better for it, if it was a problem for you. And just think of the guns and ammo you can buy with the money saved. . In another year my cigarette money saved will be used to buy me a Pigeon Grade Browning 20ga. skeet/skeet shotgun as a reward to me. Try something like that where you have a reward/goal to look forward to. Any thing that helps. Please check in from time to time to let us know how you are doing. I always enjoy hearing of successes over adversity. 44

coming from a family of alcoholics, I see it this way:
there are some people who have this switch clicked "on" in their head that makes them incapable of drinking they simply cannot handle drinking, for them it's a pit of quicksand other people have the switch clicked "off", alcohol is basically just a food condiment to them, they could go a year without it and not have to try, it would be effortless if the switch is clicked "on", then you just have to not drink, period. Go to AA, see a shrink, whatever it takes, but you have to not drink. I think I had the potential to be an alcoholic, based on genetics and temperament, but it just never clicked "on". Three cherries came up in alcoholism slot machine but also one lemon and the alcoholism jackpot never paid out. Thank heavens above. Anyway, keep up the good work OP |

Care from loved ones are a big help as well.
Hopefully soon you can store liquor as a prep to trade with when the SHTF, and not feel the need to drink it.

Michael Yep, I tell myself "I'm not gonna drink today, maybe tomorrow but not today", then I do it all over again. Anything you can do, or have to do, to overcome addiction and to defeat an addictive personality is awesome. Be vigilant. 10 years, no alcohol. I stopped drinking in college. |

I'm coming up on 20 hours now. Better start fixing that soon.

26 years of sobriety for me, one day at a time.
I use the money I used to spend on alcohol to buy shitloads of ammo by the case! It's a win-win for me..... |

Way to go.
I gave up all booze for Lent. Mornings were so much better. I'm going to definitely cut back on the booze. |
