The last time they tried confiscation.

Anyone have an ancestor who was there?

No ancestors at that one, but family legend has it some relatives were involved in that war.  Unfortunately it is legend only as there are no documents to support that claim.

Shameful how we have largely turned into a nation of pussies that let .gov trample over our rights.

And the first militia man at the bridge that morning was the local minister.  He arrived with his musket/ball/powder and waited on the rest of the company to arrive.

Probably wouldn't see too many ministers/preachers on the front lines today if armed troops were assaulting citizens and looting their possessions.

That must have been a pretty lonely feeling until the others started showing up!
That's what it takes, though.

Which side? Couldn't call them Tories either.  That was reserved for colonists.

My wife's side had some at Lexington or Concord.  (Sawyer)
My mother's side had many that were involved there afterwards, all on the Colonial side.  Arnolds/ Watermans in Rhode Island, (Local militia captains)  and Lunts in Massachusetts,  (Privateers early on, and later sailed with John Paul Jones.  They got captured twice.  )  There were others more distantly related as well.

By the rude bridge that arched the flood,

  Their flag to April’s breeze unfurled,

Here once the embattled farmers stood

  And fired the shot heard round the world.

The foe long since in silence slept;

  Alike the conqueror silent sleeps;

And Time the ruined bridge has swept

  Down the dark stream which seaward creeps.

On this green bank, by this soft stream,

  We set today a votive stone;

That memory may their deed redeem,

  When, like our sires, our sons are gone.

Spirit, that made those heroes dare

  To die, and leave their children free,

Bid Time and Nature gently spare

  The shaft we raise to them and thee.

-- Ralph Waldo Emerson
