There isn't much I can say that hasn't been said.
His greatest folly was that he signed in certain laws based on fear. Like the Patriot act. Yes, we may not have known better at the time, but as the leader of the free world he should've known what kind of precedent it would set. I commend his effort to try and curb the mortgage crisis. It's regrettable that he failed. He had a positive view for the 2A, but he knew to play politics when it came to an AWB. He should've waited a few more months to invade Iraq, and his blunder regarding the Middle East was that he never pressured his administration to come up with a clear end goal. Nation building isn't why we invaded. And "abandoning free market principles"? Well. That speaks for itself. 
At least he spent less than the presidents before or after him. History will be lukewarm to him, and he'll be forgotten. But he loved his country. |
