Today's Joe Simpson Award goes to ... SauerPatchKid. Give me a minute or two to find your trophy. SIMON! SIMON! FUCKKKK! (Song starts playing) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCyWqUNEogU and thanks man! The only way you'd know that song is if you saw the movie. I don't recall him mentioning it in the book. I've actually never heard that song, and I don't think I ever want to ... just in case ... not sure I want that song stuck in my head if I ever have to Simpson / SauerPatchKid my way back to civilization. And for anyone else reading this, no, Simon didn't have a choice. He had to cut the rope. If the roles were reversed, Simpson would have cut the rope, too. Touching the Void [I embedded the movie trailer and then decided to delete it. The trailer is really poor, and doesn't properly capture the situation. The actual movie, however, is excellent, and if you can find it on Netflix it's worth the watch.] |

Gnarly fall dude, glad to see you made it without any severe injuries.
What's the name of the couloir you planned on ripping ? Do you venture into the BC with avi gear & have avi certs ? Also +++ for keeping calm & getting yourself out of the BC, without calling in SAR. I'm surprised I didn't see a thread on TGR about your uncontrolled decent. ETA: After many dawn patrols & several LONG tours out (which started at sunset) I carry a headlamp & flashlight. |

ETA: After many dawn patrols & several LONG tours out (which started at sunset) I carry a headlamp & flashlight. View Quote I was planning on skiing the Great Gully in King Ravine. Also known as "The Seven" due to the land formation on to the left. As the snow melts at the end of the season, the formation appears as bare rock and the rest of the gully still has snow pack, forming a 7 shape. I generally carry a probe and shovel with me, no avi certs, but I have spent enough time out there to be familiar with how slabs can form and break, and I have done enough reading and online research to supplement it. On that day I left the probe and shovel at home, as the snow pack from the week before and the conditions leading up to that day equated to low avi danger. Mount Washington Avalanche Center also reported low dangers that day for the area. The slab that broke loose was a small area that had re-froze from that day and didn't actually cause an avalanche. Think of it as walking on snow covered with a sheet of ice and breaking through it. That is what happened. |

Dude that's terrible.... You're local newspaper is called the Union Leader? WTF kinda Marxist shit is that? Coincidentally, the Union Leader is a very conservative paper- at least in historical terms. Still is. Looks like I'll be in the paper again this week, I'm getting some of my stuff back (my Beretta and a single ski) and the paper wants to cover it. |

you are blessed to be alive. Now let me share some of the things I have rules for
never hunt alone, I almost got shot never shoot alone, see above never dive alone, not stupid enough to try never hike alone, never mountian bike alone never four wheel alone, too many stories never dirt bike alone, hit a booby trap, popped my collar bone, split my helmet and woke up laying on railroad tracks. second time large group of black kids on dirt bikes attacked me for my bike. (that is how they got their bikes they beat the snot out of white kids for theirs) I wound up crossing a 12" wide foot bridge over a fast moving creek at about 63MPH Never boat alone |
|
4ish months later...
Knees are still occasionally popping, and my hip occasionally pops from time to time. Hopefully that stops before my physical in the fall. Rucking 2-3 times a week to get back in shape, some pics here. Face is getting a little better, not sure if it will clear up any more then it already has. |

Can't believe I haven't seen this thread until today. I own a ski wax company if you would like some wax for this winter let me know. I saw you race, I don't really make a race wax, but a lot of people say the wax is faster than most hydrocarbon wax. That really goes for any skiers and boarders on arfcom too, if you want a sample let me know.

I have like 1kg+ of pure fluorocarbon powder from a guy who makes overlays and a shitload of graphite powder from school. I blend the two in with Swix CH waxes to make my own fluoro blends for certain snow conditions. I'd love to give your stuff a try though. We have super aggressive snow out here in the East, most of my skiing is on boiler plate ice/injected snow. |

Pretty sure I re-tore my meniscus in my right knee this weekend at work . Two steps forward, one step back. This recovery process has been a fucking bitch.
Less than two months until ski season starts again. |
|
Glad you're alright man.
Your little carnie hands creep me out. |

May I suggest a trail a tad less aggressive than your usual fare to begin this season?
How about King Pine's Pokey Pine or Slow Pokey trails? |

Your story for that picture should be: "Honey, this is what it looks like when I take a .44 magnum to the face"
