But in order for the bcm keymod rail to have the same functionality as the mk4 OG, you'd have to add 3 rail pieces. How much weight would those add and would those be as secure as the machined in rails of the superior mk4 OG? ETA: awesome! Now I don't have to buy more mk4 rails today View Quote That's the thing, you don't have to add 3 rail pieces if you don't need the same functionality. Which a lot of us won't. As far as weight, I'm guessing each piece would weigh less than an ounce. I'll never say that screw-on rail pieces is stronger than machined in rails, but many of us will never test those limits. |

The only keymod item that strikes me as being worth it is the BCM rail, and that's because of the material and weight, not the actual keymod set up.
The rails that have picatinny at the front, and keymod behind make no sense to me at all. |

keymod is nifty, but what I really want is a two-piece, free float, round handguard that installs in the stock barrel nut. Like the MI gen 2 quad rail, with only the top rail.

Keymod is basically a standard, so you don't have to worry about getting VLTOR rail sections, or Troy rail sections, etc. And I'm sure going forward, there will be more things that are direct keymod, eliminating the need for rails. Long live MK4. MK8 does look nice though. I'm so glad I didn't have the money to get a MK2 this month. If the MK8 is as light as it looks, it's going to be one hell of a rail I can assure you guys that if you like the ergos and aesthetics of the MK4, you will appreciate the features and design cues of the MK8. Truth be told, I was always a fan of the MK4 Mod 0 square relief cuts on the bottom of the rail but the issue was that a finger could slip through and burn on the barrel. Chances were nil but that's the reason for the change. Now the MK8 goes back to that design, albeit slightly modified square size and I think it just looks killer. In the hands, the rail feels light as the MK4 Mod 1 non-keymod. I don't have actual numbers to provide. |
