Has anyone used the Remington Hog Hammer .223 for hunting? Does it live up to it's purpose, or did I just buy two boxes of very expensive plinking rounds?

One shot drops each.  The only issue is no blood trail.  So make sure you hit them properly.

Good kill bet she had a blast!
Been eye balling that .223 hog hammer as well. I've bought a few boxes for 300blk.

they have some good and bad.. I hate having to use long bullets because copper weighs less than lead.

so what would you recommend for a 62-69 grain hunting bullet?

I've killed quite a few deer and feral hogs with .223 Rem handloads using 62gr Barnes TSX bullets.  Heart/lung shots on deer and neck shots on hogs.

64 grain Winchester Power Points or 65 grain Game King.

They're actually an outstanding self-defense load in disguise.  Barnes bullet, nickel coated case and flash suppressed propellent.  Too bad they cost so much though

what speed? what distance? what Cal? And type of game.

If its working for you, keep using it.. I love the old Barnes X bullets in my 35 Whelen. the old ballistic tips have taken many a deer. If I was truly a dick I would say mine. And pimp the hell out of them. But what I'm building is nitch market stuff. so its apples to oranges.

Either the Winchester 64 PP or Sierra 65 GK are perfect for coyote to deer. including hogs.  The PP is flat base so it goes good with 1":9" twist while the 65 GK is boat tailed so it might need 1:8" twist rate.  Since all my rifles are 1:7" or better, I wouldn't know.  Well, I have not tried in my 1:12" .222 Rem for obvious reasons.

This.

Largest hog I've ever killed (340lbs) was dropped with one hit from these.

Until you blow a jaw off because it turned it's head and the deer wastes to death for a couple of weeks.

Better than 1 in 7?  Didn't realize there was a faster twist.

Looking HARD at the 62 grain TIPPED-TSX or the 70 grain TSX. I don't think the 70 grain is available tipped. My guess is it would make it too long for a AR mag. I'm looking at these from a reloading view point and not planning on buying factory. JUST the bullets run about $30 per a box of 50.

Yep, 1:6.5" and 1:6".  For stabilizing 90 grain match bullets.  Single load as the OAL can be as much at 2.55" .  But launching such a bullet at 2650 ft/sec means 1000 yard supersonic speed, every day all the time.  Slightly less time of flight at 600 yards so slightly less wind drift.  Totally useless at under 400 yards, a 77 is just as good.

Ya, I'm shooting a 1:7 twist Spikes mid length with a 14.5 barrel. Thinking pretty hard about trying them. Not sure if I'd have several thousand laying around for SHTF but for hunting it wouldn't hurt to have a few 100 tucked away. I really like my AR and wouldn't mind trying to shoot a deer with it or a hog. There's a shop here that sells Barnes and I'm thinking every couple of weeks I may buy a box of 50 until I get a pretty good supply stocked up. Not set up yet to reload .223 but I'm working on it. Need a trimmer and other goodies. Don't have any small rifle primers, around here they run about $40/1000. So at $60 per 100 bullets and $4 per 100 primers, right off the bat I'd be looking at about  .64 cents a round without figuring in brass and powder.

For SHTF and for general plinking I'd stick to 55gr FMJ and/or 62 gr SS109's. But both of them kinda suck for a hunting bullet.

Hadn't heard about that one. The deer and hogs hit with the Hornady .450B load were DRT.
450Bushmaster is a bad MOFO....and you can actually afford the ammo vs socom etc.
