Looking HARD at the 62 grain TIPPED-TSX or the 70 grain TSX. I don't think the 70 grain is available tipped. My guess is it would make it too long for a AR mag. I'm looking at these from a reloading view point and not planning on buying factory. JUST the bullets run about $30 per a box of 50.

Ya, I'm shooting a 1:7 twist Spikes mid length with a 14.5 barrel. Thinking pretty hard about trying them. Not sure if I'd have several thousand laying around for SHTF but for hunting it wouldn't hurt to have a few 100 tucked away. I really like my AR and wouldn't mind trying to shoot a deer with it or a hog. There's a shop here that sells Barnes and I'm thinking every couple of weeks I may buy a box of 50 until I get a pretty good supply stocked up. Not set up yet to reload .223 but I'm working on it. Need a trimmer and other goodies. Don't have any small rifle primers, around here they run about $40/1000. So at $60 per 100 bullets and $4 per 100 primers, right off the bat I'd be looking at about .64 cents a round without figuring in brass and powder.
For SHTF and for general plinking I'd stick to 55gr FMJ and/or 62 gr SS109's. But both of them kinda suck for a hunting bullet.
