I found this guy on my patio last week.  It looked like a rolled up leaf.  I'd never seen one before that wasn't green.

My boxer pup came inside from the yard last week with a praying mantis attached to his lip.  Thought it was a stick at first until I went to take it from off his face... it swiped at me and the pup ate the sucker.  Poor Mantis.

This time of year, and the fact that it still has its head, means it's probably a female that is looking to lay her eggs somewhere.  Mantis' lay their eggs right before winter; usually have big fat abdomens.  Again, probably a seriously pregnant female since after they lay their eggs they die.

Find it a mate.   Put them in an airtight 50 gallon fish tank.

Make the environment of the fish tank have a 50% higher oxygen concentration.

Begin giant Mantis breeding program.

Teach him basic gun safety and how to shoot.

In between sessions read him "Atlas Shrugged" and play Rush's "2112" album (preferably on vinyl).
