That fireplace is apparently poorly designed and has draft issues. And why do they have firewood stacked against the back of a kitchen bake/stove?

Get rid of the stupid faux defensive parapets, add a proper front porch, and re-do the windows to allow for proper shutters, and you have something there.

I'm also fond of Spanish style with a central courtyard. Of course I'm in the wrong climate to get full use of such a feature.

Those are nice too.

Something like this, and replace the pointless bushes with an actual garden would be really cool.

ETA: I know its more Mediterranean than Spanish....but courtyard is similar.

Or even this one:

Vauban Star.

Seriously, if I could design a house it would be in the shape of a Vauban Star extending to the property line with a large inner courtyard Roman/ "Spanish" Style.  Complete with a Sally Port "Spanish Gate" front entrance with windows to either side of the inner door facing inward from the opposite walls "Murder Holes".  The windows on the lower floor would be slit style.  The walls, and roof would be poured, reinforced hardened concrete with decorative facing to make them appear either brick, stucco, adobe, or stone (not sure which).  The upper floor windows would be just out of common ladder reach, and all windows would be shatter proof, and have hurricane shutters.  The roof would be flat (so you can walk on it) with a faux Mansard of Spanish Tile with discrete firing loops.

The angles of the star would be subtle enough that a casual observer would not notice them, while still being effective.

As far as style inside, I'd like something that's kind of a cross between Victorian, and Art Deco, with the interior courtyard in a kind of neo classical with a wrap around balcony.

The courtyard would feature a retractile greenhouse roof, a swimming pool, and ample garden space.  The roof would provide additional gardening space, as well as discrete blockhouse "turrets" which would in day to day function as gazebos.

If you meant established architectural styles I'm fond of Victorian, and Colonial, with Cape Cod if it's a waterfront house.

The problem with modernism is that you need to be completely relentless about eliminating clutter. They all look fine and good with cleaned up for dramatic photo shoots but they're high maintenance to actually live in. A jacket tossed on the couch and a few toys scattered around it it looks awful.

I like my Santa Fe, but it suits the climate down here.  Once I get back to the northeast I plan on building....will start with a large steel building/garage with vehicle life and an open floor plan apartment utilizing 1/2 the upstairs.  Live in it until the house is finished...most likely a log cabin.  The apartment will turn into a man cave/inlaw suite after construction is complete.

Arfcomers have made some excellent points.
1.  New Mexico Adobe or Spanish Courtyard style homes are very nice but each really needs to be in it's intended habitat.

2.  Modern can be nice, but you need a mild climate and preferably not on a coast subject to hurricanes.  The clutter comment is dead on.  Be sure to be someone who always puts everything away immediately if it's about the way it looks.

3.  Craftsman and I would add similar styles of Bungalow, Prairie all very nice.

4.  Log Cabins look nice.  Maintenance can be horrible.
We only have two abominations.  The mcmansion with the single door entrance and the stupid balconies to the front driveway including the one that isn't even big enough to stand on.  And the Colonial, which offer nothing but a bunch of silly double hung windows with obsolete grills all over the place facing the front.
Northern Virginia had those awful colonials everywhere.  You could hardly find a home that wasn't "colonial".  The real thing wasn't that bad if you liked to have a house built right on a one horse road and wanted to know if George Washington was going somewhere to survey some land.
