I can almost guarantee I won't like his style of 1911. I'm not a fan of the "biker" image for me personally. Just ain't my style.

But I bet he can make a good 1911. It can't be that hard considering we now have $400 rock island 1911s and Taurus 1911s lol

Ya know, from a  marketing standpoint ( and this is ALL it amounts to ) it is a good idea for STI.

They don't have to stick their name on some gaudy flashy piece of shit and the name of JJ will draw certain types into the 1911 game.

It really is a win win for all involved in the business end.

'Merica dam it!!

"Whenever I’ve done something because my motivation was money, it never works out. I’m doing this because I have a passion for it — making one gun at a time, one bike at a time," James said.

I can't believe some of the bs I'm reading about Jesse not being a fabricator or machinist. Anyone who says that obviously is partially fucking retarded. The man completely re engineers motors with way tighter tolerances and moving parts than any 1911, and you think he can't build a 1911 with quality like that? People will talk shit regardless of its the best or worse gun ever made. When you think about it he likes bikes, hotrods, guns and hot bitches everything all of us like and people complain. WTF!

Some people have some legit butthurt going on about this.

Theyre diehard Sandra Bullock fans and are upset about the failed marriage, is all I can think of.

I'd buy one of his firearms, if I can afford it

He takes his craft seriously. I don't think a pistol is going to throw him for a loop.

He apprenticed under Uri Hofi in 2009

I would think he would be hiring the best machinist / gunsmiths.  Doubt he will be doing all the work himself. And its possible he still has nudes of Sandra he could share in BOTD if we are nice. Or just IM me some.

His guns will undoubtedly sell to those guys who don't know a lot about how to shoot, or worse yet hold their guns sideways. Guns will probably smell like cigarettes, grease, and farts. "Ballers" will eat em up!

What relationship would that have to jesse james building bling bling guns on a reality show?

It's hilarious that people think that making custom motorcycle parts or running a batch of belt buckles on a CNC machine is the high frontier of metal crafting.

It's baby stuff.

What's impressive is the kind of work done for aerospace fabrication.  Like for those 15 million dollar jet engines.  Those giant turbine blades run at 2900F and spin at tens of thousands of RPMs

Now that's metalworking

Even regular metal fabrication shops can grind parts to micron level finishes and hold manufacturing tolerances to ± .00001 inch on production items.

I think you guys are just slightly overestimating the usefulness of big bloppy auto shop welds in firearm manufacturing.

and slightly underestimating the importance of celebrity bling bling in this particular case

Yeah, 5 degrees either way off of QC lab temp will knock you out of tolerance on that spec.

This.

I've seen his work and he is good at what he does.

I don't think it takes a rocket scientist to make the 1911's and anything based on the AR platform.

It's all about quality materials and quality control.

Plus, it's good P.R. for us.

Seems like a win, win for us to me.

Absolutely

Any time someone becomes famous, there is a compulsion among the public to adore the person and heap praise on the famous person

It's some kind of built-in tribal survival instinct

A vast shitload of guys are going to line up to buy his $10,000 "katanas".

They're going to get a $2,000 gun and a $8000 marketing scheme.

And they'll praise it to the high heavens because marketing works like a charm.

Marketing is a form of brainwashing.

The human mind works on associations, it associates one thing with another.

When Michael Jackson was doing pepsi commercials, it makes the hardcore Michael; Jackson fans transfer their emotional bond from Jackson to pepsi.

That's why they paid him millions

Did you know that those entry level Rolex watches they sold back in the 1950s cost $550 in today's dollars?   The same exact watch costs around $3500 today.

Clever marketing and snob appeal is a license to print money.

Our entire fucked up consumer culture is built on it.

So line up, guys, and buy your fabulous new katana from a beginner with a huge public image.

Whatever you do, don't buy from a factory that has been making the gun from scratch for 50 or 100 years.  Yuck, that's just not "good enough".

Practicality and value are just subsets of a larger buying experience some use to make purchases. There are so many other and marketing has little to do with it. There is the principle of insufficiency, looks, feel and uniqueness and dozens of other criteria people use when making purchases.  That you don't understand this is probably why Jesse James is worth hundreds of millions and you're not. Don't be a hater. I'd never buy his stuff not because I can't afford it but i'm a pure price performance type buyer as I can be but that doesnt make me right or a marketing victim either. It's called frugal. Chill out and never forget it's their money and thier value judgement how it's spent (least parts govt allows you to keep).

Seriously??  LOL!!

I guess those people that buy Paris Hilton, P- Diddy, Fiddy Cent, etc. products that bear their names do so because marketing has nothing to do with it.  I bet their products are just superior to others that have been on the market for decades.

WTF!

Apparently you missed the point.  Firearms are not merely mechanical devices, but magical items that only the chosen few are able to produce.  All of his fabrication, metal working skills and overall understanding of this stuff doesn't mean he can make guns.  That'd be like a sewing machine company making 1911s for WWII!  Crazy talk!
