That is bad ass. I know quite a few fire-ant colonies I would love to pour some aluminum down and get rid of those bitches forever.
|
|
The ants are all going about their business and then suddenly...
"FUUUCK! Run for your lives! The end is upon us!" as a tital wave of molten Al floods their colony. Fucking awesome! |
|
reminds me of shop class and sand casting. pretty cool stuff.

What happens when you pour 1200F molten aluminum into an anthill? View Quote dupe is what happens |
|
Generally, when that happens, someone beats you to the punch posting on arfcom.

One of the related videos at the end was of a giant ant mound, Check that out--they filled it with cement for 3 days, 10 tons of cement. Then they dug it out figuring the ants moved tons of dirt and in human terms it is like building the great wall of China!
I agree with an earlier poster--fire ant mounds need this treatment. |
|
What happens? Modern art happens plus the Pink Panther theme in chorus.
Happened last week also. Just as cool then as now. Except for the little six-legged guys. Not so cool for them. |

When they said dont try this at home, I thought I could try this at home. When the history channel said that I had an operational still in 24 hours.

View Quote yeah--we watched that in a class i took a while back. they had engineers and network experts examining the finished mold, and the guys were astonished at the efficiency of the design.

I'm melting down an old wheel right now ... gotta' try this!

you are so fascinating to me. so beautiful and magnificent. to study you i will submerge your entire family and home in molten metal without remorse. if we ever encounter life with superior intelligence in the universe, i'm sure it will go well.

What kind of furnace was that that he used in heating the aluminum?
|
|
I suppose this allows ants to survive forest fires and other surface issues short of floods. It would be interesting to study the biology of soils after a long flood - how long does it take the ants to repopulate a piece of flooded ground?

As a proud member of PETA I am deeply saddened and sickened by this ruthless display....

Lead works better, lower melting point, denser will flow into all the chambers. Letting it cool and dig it out later.
|
|
That's pretty neat.
And if it involved the death of fire ants, I'm all for it. Those things are evil. |

View Quote Density + large volume = really heavy casting made of a relatively soft material. They commented on how heavy even a small casting was, saying it could be used in a bar fight. Wouldn't a lead casting be more fragile, too? |

I can not embed because I am not a team member currently. But there are lots of people doing stuff like this. |
