I'm fairly detailed oriented, and he's not just a coyote.    I used an Exacto knife for most of it.   I don't like holes in the hide, and neither do my students.

Ever skinned out a big paw full of toes?   It's tough to get all the way out to the ends with out holes.

Can you take a picture of the skinned carcass when done?  I'm intensely interested in that for some reason.

Sorry.   I should have, but it's gone, and we removed each leg as we went to get a better angle on skinning out the legs and feet.

What happens to the skull?  Will that be a separate project or will you use it (or parts of it) for the mount?

It would be neat to have the whole skeleton cleaned by beetles then assemble it with rods and a wire frame like a museum specimen.

I can imagine how bad it stunk; the last coyote I shot was terribly foul-smelling, though apparently healthy.
I'd rather skin a skunk.

We've seen enough bullshit softer side of the emotional connection in the love between the pack members on mounts of wolves... That dog was shot for eating livestock. Make him look like the killing machine he was. Pissed and looking for lunch.

I'd smoke a pack a day if I could.

Edit to add- Didn't get to Wy this year to hunt. But I bought another antelope, deer, and elk point. One day.

UPDATE 10/7

We got the cape defrosted this morning rather quickly, and we got the artist on there early this afternoon.   We also rounded up a few folks to help her.   It's been all hands on deck all afternoon, and they are close to being done.   She did a good job turning the lips, eyes, and nose, with one mistake on the ear.  We can fix it.

OP, those kids are lucky to have a teacher like you. I love what you and your classes take on as projects.

It is almost like being in a time warp and looking at schools of a bygone era. Your students are fortunate

to live in a place that still promotes the type of education that you are providing.

I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product.

Well of course.

Usually potters clay is used for the scrotum, and some foam coil will be used in the penis.    There is usually a lot of blushing going on when the kids do it.

I had a female student say to me ........never mind.   I should just keep that to my self and all the students who heard the comment..  I blushed way more than the students.

Thanks fellas.

It's a good school district with a lot of really good people.   I was extremely impressed with the education my oldest son got.   He's breezing through his second year as a bio-electrical engineer major.    His lowest test score this year was in Calc III, and a 98% so far.

Our new principal is a great guy.   I came in this morning and told him about the new addition to our "endangered species" collection.. He was pretty excited.

People were giving me shit about the blood trail from the parking lot to my room this morning.   My wife and I mopped up as much as we could in the hallways.

The number of ladies working/learning that trade (judging solely from that pic) is surprising.  Though it maybe they are better at the detail and aesthetic work?

Update 10/8

Today we got the hide finished being fleshed out, and washed with some dishwashing liquid.    We then stretched it on the frame, and salted it with non-iodized salt.

It will dry out over the next few days, then I'll explain the tanning method we will use.
