God we can only hope but I doubt it. Not sure if they are State issued or not.
Any FSA on here that can confirm?
Link Posted: 10/1/2013 7:00:00 AM EDT
EBT is essential, yo
Link Posted: 10/1/2013 7:00:48 AM EDT
not sure how you would effect an ebt.

pretty sure they are state issued, although there may be a lot of federal money backing them.
Link Posted: 10/1/2013 7:00:57 AM EDT
Shit... You think they want to fuck with the majority of the voters like that.... not a chance in hell...
Link Posted: 10/1/2013 7:00:59 AM EDT
I don't think it would be interrupted, at least not initially.
Link Posted: 10/1/2013 7:01:59 AM EDT
Looking out my window I see no columns of smoke, circling police helicopters or hear any yelling and gunfire so, no, EBT is not affected.
Link Posted: 10/1/2013 7:02:09 AM EDT
If only it could be so.

I would pay admission to watch the meltdown in the checkout lanes at WALMART.

It would be epic, wouldn't it.

I haven't run an ebt transaction yet this morning. hold on
Link Posted: 10/1/2013 7:08:23 AM EDT
We could be invaded by North Korea, China, and Mars and ebt would go on business as usual.

Listen (or I guess read) very carefully.

EBT cards will NEVER be affected. Ever.

Yep. These are among the most critical of things that socialistic governments provide. Democrats will never, ever let welfare be stopped, not even temporarily.

Link Posted: 10/1/2013 7:18:13 AM EDT
I believe that short of a cyber attack that brings the system down EBT would go uninterrupted even if missiles were in the air and the country was about to be made a glowing, smoking, hole in the ground.

I don't know how well protected the EBT system is, but if it was off line for three, maybe four days around the time the cards get reloaded it would become very interesting.

Your average food stamp recipient has at MOST 3 days worth of food stores. I'd say they have at MAXIMUM 5 days before every single piece of food and condiment is eaten in the household. Your average is between 1-2 days worth of food.
Link Posted: 10/1/2013 7:24:46 AM EDT
If they aren't, they should be.
Link Posted: 10/1/2013 7:25:39 AM EDT
What most people don't realize is that food stamps are like winning lottery tickets. When people run out(mid month), they just switch to "real" money and welfare/child support cards.
Link Posted: 10/1/2013 7:26:47 AM EDT
Are you kidding? Do you want to watch America burn?

And to top it off, many jurisdictions call EBT cards "Freedom Cards".

Kinda puts a little icing on economic slavery, doesn't it?

Yet Obummer had to sign a special bill to allow the military to be paid. Things are so fucked up in this country.

Funny guy.
Link Posted: 10/1/2013 7:30:27 AM EDT

During the first several days of balance renewal the brunt of the money is spent. People trade their balances to the "weed" or "meth" man in return for drugs. the drug dealers profit and fill up their refrigerators with choice food from the grocery store.

Here, they call them direction cards.

They couldn't be effected.

They also are not affected by the shutdown.

Are you kidding me?

SNAP(food stamps) reminds me of the gov shutdown. When it resumes, people get their back pay. The highest balance i've seen was in the 3k range. My friend has seen a 5k balance.

edit: the average around here is about 500/month. a family of 5 with the boyfriend(with his own personal ebt) hiding from amha in their section 8 home acquires low 600's every month.

I'm not kidding. I knew they were overpaid but had no idea people racked up 5k balances.

October 17th is the drop dead date.

That's when the Treasury runs out of money for things like social security, VA benefits, entitlements and welfare.

...Meanwhile over at the Fed, Ben Bernanke has said the Federal Reserve will keep printing $85 billion in new money to hand to Warren Buffet and the other oligarchs....oh, and congressional salaries will keep getting paid.

This is one big show.

balances are printed directly on the receipts

SNAP, TANF, AFDC, The president's and conress' pay are all considered mandtory.

Military pay, on the other hand is considered discretionary. That's why congress had to pass and the president had to sign the bill to pay us through the shutdown.

I'll tell you a story. There's a couple in my area. the boyfriend is intelligent and runs the local linux group. They calculated how much they would each have to earn full time to break even on their entitlements. It came out to be a little bit more than 13.00/hr.

I can't remember what it is, but their rent is between 8.00 and 30.00 a month. Their utilities are pretty much the same. She receives welfare from two baby daddies.
