not sure how you would effect an ebt.
pretty sure they are state issued, although there may be a lot of federal money backing them. |

Looking out my window I see no columns of smoke, circling police helicopters or hear any yelling and gunfire so, no, EBT is not affected.

I believe that short of a cyber attack that brings the system down EBT would go uninterrupted even if missiles were in the air and the country was about to be made a glowing, smoking, hole in the ground.
I don't know how well protected the EBT system is, but if it was off line for three, maybe four days around the time the cards get reloaded it would become very interesting. |

Your average food stamp recipient has at MOST 3 days worth of food stores. I'd say they have at MAXIMUM 5 days before every single piece of food and condiment is eaten in the household. Your average is between 1-2 days worth of food.

During the first several days of balance renewal the brunt of the money is spent. People trade their balances to the "weed" or "meth" man in return for drugs. the drug dealers profit and fill up their refrigerators with choice food from the grocery store.

That's when the Treasury runs out of money for things like social security, VA benefits, entitlements and welfare. ...Meanwhile over at the Fed, Ben Bernanke has said the Federal Reserve will keep printing $85 billion in new money to hand to Warren Buffet and the other oligarchs....oh, and congressional salaries will keep getting paid. This is one big show. |

SNAP, TANF, AFDC, The president's and conress' pay are all considered mandtory.
Military pay, on the other hand is considered discretionary. That's why congress had to pass and the president had to sign the bill to pay us through the shutdown. |

I'll tell you a story. There's a couple in my area. the boyfriend is intelligent and runs the local linux group. They calculated how much they would each have to earn full time to break even on their entitlements. It came out to be a little bit more than 13.00/hr.
I can't remember what it is, but their rent is between 8.00 and 30.00 a month. Their utilities are pretty much the same. She receives welfare from two baby daddies.
