1st-gen RX7 with a REW/Renesis swap. Then spend the other $5k on tires.

Miata.
Get the cleanest NB you can find. They really are better than the car that replaced them. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

'86-'89 944 turbo, remove cat, add boost controller and chipset, have fun. Don't ride the clutch.
Other than the clutch replacement, the rest of the car was pretty easy to work on. I owned 2 previously and you can find nice examples for 10-12k. Check maintenance records. Engines will go 200k+ pretty easily. |

RX8. Best car I ever owned. Terrific handling. Nothing like the scream of a rotary engine at 9,000 RPMs.

add 5k to that sum and be fairly amazed at the kind of vette you can get

Which is absolutely stupid as more women buy Mustangs and Camaros... They're incredibly well built for the $,about as reliable as cars get and have a fun factor pretty much higher than anything for the same $. They're also backed with an incredible aftermarket and knowledge base. Pretty much the only thing you have to watch for is perfect tire balance. Always get them road force balanced of else the 65 mph shimmy comes up. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

The BP4w takes well to mods and requires less work/tuning to make decent power than the BPZ3. Add sticky street tires, a roll bar, a decent set of suspension, and a few track days and have fun passing things that cost 3-4x the cost. Quoted: He means get a Miata from 1998–2005. There is no 98 Miata. Only 97 and 99. The 01+ is better if left stock. Otherwise, the BP4w wins. Edit: And because it hasnt been said yet, Miata with LSx swap. |

I'll go with E36, or a Miata. Both handle great, and are an excellent driver's car. The only draw back on the E36's is the interior seems to made of some kind of self destructing material, and they require yearly "maintenance".

You guys are lame.
How about a TR6? Honestly, any old British roadster would be better than a Miata. |

I prefer an all motor approach, but I also race a Miata and see lots of what can be done with an all motor approach. If it werent hamstringed so bad with rules, Id probably look for one to race and/or swap mine for a turbo motor. |

Op, my sisters Miata is for sale right now. It's a 96 with a brand new timing belt/ waterpump/ battery. Red.

Mazda warrantees ALL RX8 engines for 100,000 miles, regardless of who owns it. That includes full replacement. Mine never gave me any trouble. |

They're lovely for what they are but the Miata is a Brit car that can fit 2 humans and always works. In terms of driving experience it's no fair comparison. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

Porsche 944
Porsche 951 E30 BMW 3'er Stroked E36 BMW M3 For under 10k these are your best choices...personally id buy a Bimmer over the money pit that is 944/951 Or, save up a few more thousand and get a mid-80's Porsche 911. It will be the funnest car you have ever driven and more enjoyable than anything else. The sound of those air cooled flat-6's is orgasmic. |
