In a surprise move, Russia promised Monday to push its ally Syria to place its chemical weapons under international control and then dismantle them quickly to avert U.S. strikes. The announcement by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov came a few hours after U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said that Syrian President Bashar Assad could resolve the crisis surrounding the alleged use of chemical weapons by his forces by surrendering control of "every single bit" of his arsenal to the international community by the end of the week. MOSCOW — Syria's foreign minister says his country welcomes Russia's proposal for it to place its chemical weapons under international control and then dismantle them quickly to avert U.S. strikes. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/09/09/russia-syria-chemical-weapons-international-control_n_3893951.html?icid=maing-grid7|main5|dl1|sec1_lnk2%26pLid%3D371567 |

I can hear Kerry getting yelled at by Obummer all the way across the Potomac. This should be hilarious. |
Once again it shows that our sad example of a leader takes a backseat to Russia. And I am no Putin lover like some of the people on here. But he is a Leader to his people
This is how a real leader would have handled it. Behind closed door's he'd tell Putin to put his dog on a leash or we would put him down.
I just wonder what Putin is telling Assad behind closed doors....
Probably something to the effect of "Keep it up... it's working." |
This should be good. I hope Syria actually pulls it off. I'd love to see what excuses Obama comes up with to justify attacking them anyway.
Any one else get the feeling Russia is confused by just how bad team Obama handles international politics.

Give up the chem weapons to keep the USA from sending in cruise missiles then send in some Russian forces to help Assads army to push the militants out of the country then pull forces back out and rearm Assad with newer more capable weapons to replace his long gone chem weapons. |

Wait a second....
Russia is the voice of reason? RUSSIA!?! What bizarro world did I wake up in... |

That seems unlikely considering the back pedaling statements his staff made after Kerry's comment. edit: "But the State Department sought to clarify Kerry's comment, and a U.S. official called the secretary of state's remarks a "major goof." "Secretary Kerry was making a rhetorical argument about the impossibility and unlikelihood of Assad turning over chemical weapons he has denied he used," State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said. A U.S. official said the proposal isn't a serious option. "There is no one in the administration who is taking this Syria proposal seriously," the official said, calling Kerry's remarks a major goof and saying the secretary of state "clearly went off script here."" |

Putin should say> Yeah Assad just put them at our base. We'll keep an eye on them.
Then Putin will say. We have control of them get lost. Or Assad will he'll ship them to Iran. Or Assad will just say get lost. You've no right to ask me to do anything with them.(If indeed I have ANY) You've no proof I ever used them and I am not a signatory to your stupid treaty. Anyway even if I did do as you ask then I have Sadaam predicament where you constantly say I still have them and no amount of proof I show is good enough. Pass. Assad can cut Obama balls off ( the little he has left)with one speech where he simply says that his country is under attack from Al Qaeda, the Muslim brotherhood and groups aligned with them. That these "rebels" are not fighting for the freedoms that American envisions but for a Muslim Caliphate and Sharia law. And he has no understanding why the USA would side with people who attacked their country on (9/11/2001 in New york and the Embassy in Benghazi last year.. The he should sit back and watch ol' jug ears shit his pants and dance around telling everyone he is wearing the latest fashion in brown pants. |

I don't care who came up with the plan.
If it means we don't bomb another country, it's a good plan. |
This means if Assad gives up of his chemical weapons to International control they will be able to test them to the victims that got gassed. Just think if they don't match the test results...

Putin threw a wrench in Obamas speech the day before he's set to go on the air to ask for missile strikes. Now Obama will have to change his stradegy completely because he will look dumb now that this offer is on the table.

See, he gets to be the big peacemaker on the international stage, and jamb a thumb in America's eye. And the Obungler, having already commited to a big speech demanding approval for his military solution, must now backtrack from his position, or push ahead and look like an even bigger fool. He waited for the O to derp himself fully into a corner, and then punked him publicly. I'm not a big Putin fanboy, but credit where credit is due [golfclaps]. |

If the chemical weapons are turned over, how many heads will collectively explode when it is revealed there is Iraqi markings all over them?
This is fucking genius on Putin's part. |

The idiot GOP absolutely has to vote against this use of force now... FBHO has finally made a shit sandwich that even our fucked up media might just make him eat, and if Boenher and McCain let him off the hook I might have a fucking stroke.

If this does happen Zero will just claim that his threats put the pressure on them and scared them into doing this.
