What is wrong with us?  It all started with ed, Viagra, Cialis, and now low T.  We cannot lock hubs, start fires, or change our own wiper blades anymore??  I just saw two grown men on tv that had no idea what a snow-cat or a unimog was.  Changing brake pads and grilling meat at the same time used to be cool.

And there's the pussification right there.

Grow a spine.  She didn't "make" you do anything.  You chose to, yet you are putting the blame on her.  Own your own decisions or be owned by someone else.

40+ years of TV telling us that if you're a white male you're so incompetent you can't breath without written instructions and that you need to find someone else to interpret them for you is what's to blame.  So stop it, get out and take your GF to the range or camping or something.

Had to look up what a Unimog was. I might have seen them at a factory outside of Houston or perhaps when I use to read International Defence Review, but seriously, I've seen more full size MB trucks in my life than Unimogs. As far as Snow-cats go, sure, have seen them....in Nat'l Geo.

But this is Texas, we don't get much use for them here.

As far as this ......what did you call it, TV? Is that a form of entertainment? (ie, one still watches TV?)

In what regard?

I know how to change a brake pad (well, disk breaks.  I don't do drums)  I'd rather pay someone else to do it.

On a slightly related note, I heard an interesting observation in dance class last night.

That, essentially, the parents today are still 12 year olds who don't have any parenting skills. They let their kids do as they please because, as still mental 12 year olds, such "antics" are still cute to them.

If accurate........at one time, with teenage pregnancies, we were saying "children raising children" because of the slight differences in the biological age. If accurate, then what brought, what event (or series of) caused this stagnation of maturity?

For the example that was given in class, where a child was allowed to be destructive to unbought food in the market, it would seem that accountability was lost. Ie, "Ma'am, your child willfully destroyed this merchandise and you are now buying it," is a thing of the past.

Now, if that is the case, then in a way it is understandable of why it is like that now. Here on this list, for example, if there was the scenario where someone told someone that they WERE going to do something, what is the most likely response?

"OH, YEAH? AND WHO IS GOING TO MAKE ME?". Hence, the ultimatum, hence what is the possible recourse? Small Claims Court probably, but the cost of ramming the point home is probably not worth the cost of the last merchandise.

If that is the or one of the potential pathways which has brought us to this point, I don't know what to do about that.

Oh, I wish......in a fantasy, the "Don't care how, I want it now!" Veuca Salt gets her wish, gets what she wants, and then..........."What's this?"

"It's the bill, Ms. Salt. You said you didn't care how, so we spared no expense in getting the Golden Goose and you now have to pay one million, seven hundred and fifty-six thousand, and two hundred, thirty-seven pounds......immediately. Other wise, those men from the Mob who did the job for us are going to come to talk to you."

But getting back to men for a moment, but not to put all the blame on men, is not such an attitude, "OH YEAH? AND WHO IS GOING TO MAKE ME?" not prevalent to the gender?

If it is, then what do we do about it? How do we change the world?

He aint skurd to get durty. Or something like that...

Here's the deal:

It's smart to know how to maintain your shit, but if your area of expertise is in other matters, and time constraints demand you to delegate, then there's no subtraction to skill points incurred.

A man should know how to check his oil, change a flat, and do minor repairs should he find himself in a tight spot in a desolate place to get to the nearest service. But lacking in knowledge to complete a transmission overhaul (for instance) doesn't make someone less of a man. Especially if his time is worth more than the mechanic's.

Well, is that not another problem of now? No one is willing to read?

In the Navy, if someone did not know how to do something, they would go to the Naval Technical Manual and learn the process.

So here we are saying that men don't know how to do mechanical things. Surely there must be guides around on how to do things. Could that be part of the problem in that the man of today....................is not willing to read?

Boys, young men and grown men are all in need of teaching and experience, without those you get what you are complaining about.

Mentor the ones who show interest or whose interest can be piqued and chastise with enthusiam the lazyminded simpletons that wish to become nothing more than parasitic consumers.

A man or woman for that matter should always be looking to expand his or her understanding and abilities.

"A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects." — Robert Heinlein

Failing to expand one's capabilities is poor form and is a gauranteed way to multiply the effects of life's burdensome times.

Thanks for keeping it short.

I partly reject the premise.

The mechanical dominance in industry and culture is giving way to the technological. Both require men to read, but nowadays robots can do a better job on the assembly line than men can.

It is worthwhile to know your vehicle and know how to maintain it, but gone are the days that the driveline requires daily attention. Thank you, science.

It's the transition from the mechanical to the technological age, and it is well underway. It's a beautiful thing, and people should be happy that they make enough money to pay someone to do the work they don't have to.

so, you want to stay with that hot girlfriend (and who wouldn't) just tell her to keep that fake bullshit man hating faggotry on TV.  You are going to go change the oil and shoot something.

be a man.  don't be whats on TV.  You can choose to be whatever you want.

Rugged Individualism and self reliance was a founding core principal of the United States of America. It does not fit the agenda of the liberals, progressives, socialists, and communists.  As such it has been under attack in the entertainment, educational, and news media for the past 40 to 50 years and has resulted in less self reliant American citizen.

Why should it only be limited to meat or fish? Why not also a knowledge of what grubs, what worms, insects, other invertebrates, and plants they can eat as well? Should someone know how to cook, get the meat out of a blue crab or for that matter, how to catch them?

I get your point, of course, but when it comes to get nourishment from "the wild", there is more out there than just the vertebrates.

I've been married almost 30 years so it's not as if I didn't already know about having to work with my spouse.

But you completely misread what I was saying.  It's about owning your own decisions.  If you want to watch a chick flick with the SO, go for it!  Recognize that you are doing so voluntarily, not being "made" to do it.  And don't be ashamed to be doing something "unmanly".  More pussification is letting others tell you what you should like/dislike or how to run your relationship (unless you ask or there are OBVIOUS problems like abuse).

You proved the point.

That some American men are pussies? Sure.

That knowing about brake pads, or any of that other pogue/peasant shit makes you a man? Nah.

People that know pogue/pheasant shit like that have been giving guys like you a run for your money for the last decade.

How many battles have they won?
Skirmishes?
Firefights?

Aside from absorbing bullets and HE what have they done?

Ask Assad.  Or King George.  Or Nixon.

I'm not trying to put any of you guys down. I'm just saying that irregulars typically perform well given their circumstances.

What is wrong with us?  It all started with ed, Viagra, Cialis, and now low T.  We cannot lock hubs, start fires, or change our own wiper blades anymore??  I just saw two grown men on tv that had no idea what a snow-cat or a unimog was.  Changing brake pads and grilling meat at the same time used to be cool.

don't know why.  Maybe so she can feel better about my neanderthal ass.

I can't stand it.  I can't watch for 5 minutes without screaming, "get back in the friend zone where you belong you faggot.  you lying whore!" etc.

so, you want to stay with that hot girlfriend (and who wouldn't) just tell her to keep that fake bullshit man hating faggotry on TV.  You are going to go change the oil and shoot something.

  What's the point?

Grocery stores represent an advancement in technology, why shouldn't they be embraced?

Or should we forego space exploration to go dig up grubs?

How many "men" these days can provide meat/fish for their family table on a regular basis without relying on a grocery store?

The point is I can if need be. As far as I am concerned you are not much of a man if you can't.

I had to look up why an erection lasting four hours was a bad thing.
