Tonight's featured avatar belongs to the member, Raven - a very long member of the site since 2001 (member ID 2902).

His avatar is Charlton Heston playing the character of Robert Neville in the 1971 movie, The Omega Man.

The movie is one of three based off of a 1954 book, I am Legend, written by Richard Matheson.  The first movie made was The Last Man on Earth, filmed in 1964 and starring Vincent Price.  The second movie was The Omega Man filmed in 1971.  The last was the 2007 movie, I am Legend with Will Smith.

Here's the opening scene which features the subject avatar:

It's a classic end of the world movie.  While the original book and the other movies featured vampire-like creatures, The Omega Man differed by having the creatures to appear instead to be more mutant-like.  Neville is, of course, one of the few last non-infected beings on Earth and he spends his days searching for supplies and his nights fighting off hordes of the mutant masses.  Here's a great clip from the movie:

For those of you who are interested, the weapon he is using in those scenes is the Smith & Wesson M76, a copy of the Swedish Carl Gustav M/45.

Another point of note is that The Omega Man was one of the first movies to show an interracial kiss between Heston and his co-star Rosalind Cash - quite the controversial thing at the time.

....and now you know.

Yes, you do.  It's the best of the three movies made.
