The fuck would I know, we only had a fleet of 60 trucks over the last two decades, which started out as Chevies and were replaced with Fords when the Chevies quickly became unserviceable. The Fords on average were lasting 200,000 for the gas and 300,000 for the diesel before we traded them in. The Chevies sucked. That said, recent Ford diesels were shit so we just bought gas trucks and saved $8,000 up front. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Used both as worked trucks, as long as someone knowledgeable is doing the servicing they are always serviceable. |

Yep, I always loved when Chevy says most of their vehicles are still on the road. That's right cause very few actually make it home.

Chevy owner, huh? Was the boat dealer on a dirt road?
Most likely he dropped the tranny when he shifted from D (dirt) to P (pavement). |
|
My transmission went out on my 2007 Z-71 at 73,000 miles,, the dealer had a new one installed in 3 days,,, it did not cost me a cent. They actually do honor the 100,000 powertrain warranty. Did mine anyway.

In what way were they not serviceable? View Quote Mostly engine/transmission issues (the old Chevy diesels were shit) and a lot of electrical system failures. They also couldn't carry the same amount of weight without something breaking, be it a spring pack or a bearing. They just weren't built as heavily--which is why they drive beautifully, especially the little ones. The gas Fords are great, just avoid the 6.0 diesel and you're good. |

3 weeks a year? I come from the masonry business. We use 'em hard the other 49, too. I did break the axle in an F-550 once though, loaded it up to about 32,000 pounds GVW regularly for a while. That's 12,000 past what it was supposed to be loaded to. View Quote 3 weeks a year for the heavy grain trucks (forgot to add, these are 70s vintage trucks that have been on continuous use since the 70s), 15-20 hours a day of constant running carrying heavy (probably overloaded most of the time as well) loads. Year round for the regular farm trucks. Anyone who acts like farm equipment doesn't need to be tough and reliable to put up for those 3 weeks of harvest hasn't ever been around farming. You've had one experience with one kind of hard use, I've had a different one. Our fords failed to hold up, so did your chevys. Yet somehow the world keeps spinning. (Who the fuck quits using a truck after only 200,000 miles anyway?) |

Does the computer controlling an Allison transmission "learn" like some other controllers do?
If so, I'm wondering if the sudden change in driving method (no load city driving to towing on the highway) might have been a contributing factor. |

All this really tells us is that the dealer is trying to weasel out of paying for any repairs, even if they are under warranty, which is SOP. Even if it is still under warranty, I bet he has to get corporate involved. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:
I have no idea if it's under warranty. I don't buy Chevy products and have no clue as to their warranty. According to him, the dealer seems to think not if he's quoting him that much $$. what insanity is this, dealers don't pay for warranty work. derp. |

Likely the transmission lines. They have been a issue for years. Non SAE hose so the crimps aren't correct and its not if they will leak but when. Do not replace with factory parts as the issue has never been fixed. Google duramax transmission lines (hoses) and you'll see what I mean.

The name Allison doesn't mean shit in the diesel world. Not sure if serious The Fuck you say? The hd pickups are the smallest vehicles that use an Allison. The 1000 is essentially a 2400 series with different gearing. The 2400is used in municipal transit busues and light dump trucks. |
