Seriously guys, it's time to stop sucking the shaving conglomerations dick and order one of these, then go to Wal-Mart and pick up this* and a pack of these* for $1.76 for 10 blades.
Not only do traditional DE razors and soap give a better shave, but they are so much cheaper that it's not even comparable. Cartridges are a conspiracy! *It has come to my attention that Wal-Mart has discontinued the Wilkinson blades. The only other source of inexpensive blades locally is at Family Dollar, which sells 5 packs of Dorco blades for $0.99. *It seems that Wal-Mart has discontinued the VDH Deluxe soap/Premium shave kit and is now stocking the VDH Luxury scented soap/Luxury shave kit. The Premium kit is still readily available at Fred Myers, Walgreens, Rite-Aid, CVS, King's and other local drug stores for around the same price though. |

because its convenient and makes my beard go away and i don't like change unless there is a good reason.

I already shave with a DE Safety razor. I started out with the double/triple razors in my teens... then moved up to quads, then on to electric for several years. Then decided to try the DE Safety razor and I'm like... WTF... who the hell decided to reinvent the wheel?
I use a Merkur DE safety razor and it gives me the best shave I've ever had and doesn't cause irritation. Cheaper too. |

If you don't want to take the time to use a soap and brush, you can still use the canned crap. It's $2.25 shipped and comes with a blade, give it a try. Break free from your chains! |

How does it work? I find it alluring but confusing...will it cut me? How long those blades good for? I started blow drying my cartridge razor to dry it and it holds a good edge for months, I hear dipping it in alcohol to dry it is also a good idea to preserve the edge.

Wrong.
For some of us, DE's are NOT better. I used one for years, lying to myself about how much better of a shave I was getting. I used a badger hair brush and a quality glycerine-based shave soap (still do) and you know what? It gave me a sub-standard shave and every few months a really nasty, painful, infected ingrown hair. Switched back to a Gillette Fusion Pro Glide and I get the best shave I've ever had, with little to no irritation, and best of all, no infected ingrown hairs. Fuck double edge safety razors. In fact, that reminds me, I've got two vintage Gillette adjustable DE's that need to go off to eBay...

Didn't we just do this thread like 2 or 3 weeks ago?

It has really good reviews and the price can't be beat. Thanks OP.

No, I wasn't. Believe me, I spent a lot of time over on Badger and Blade, watched YouTube videos, did the research. DE's are NOT for my face, as proven by the superior, ingrown hair-less shave I get with a cartridge razor.

Hipster bullshit, yet again.
Hot water, soap, shaving cream, Fusion. Y'all make me laugh, not to mention question your standing with all this, "Ohhhh, one blade, lotions, whisks, more lotions, love me, kiss my face..." Any of you ever been exposed to the sun? Waaay too much time spent analyzing every aspect of "how do I shave?"... fuck man... SHAVE |

Why would anyone willingly subject their face to bleeding nicks and cuts? Because that's what safety razors do. It's like it's their job.
There's nothing charming or old school or reminiscent of Grandad by sticking pieces of tissue to bloody wounds on your face. I learned to shave with nice safety razors. There's nothing safety or close shave about them. Relics. Well. you can get a close shave if you want to scrape that thing across your face 3 or 4 times. Ridiculous. |
|
|
My Dad used one of those. I remember him walking around with a small corner of toilet paper stuck to his face at times, and always wondered what the stypic powder was in the medicine cabinet for.
|
|
Um, no. Fusion for the head, Mach 3 for face.
There is NO chance I'm dragging one of those relics over my head. I've got enough scars there already. |

It is apparently too difficult to use properly for some people though.

And yet those Fusion blades will last for a solid month, easily.
As opposed to any safety razor blade that's good for two, maybe three days. Truly not hating. Shave or not, however you want. But safety razors < Fusion. |

I use a Mach 3. The cartridges are a tad pricey for my taste, but every time I've tried a cheaper alternative I wasn't satisfied with the results.
Also, I don't have much of a beard, so I can usually get a good 4-6 weeks out of one. |

Fuck that shit. I learned how to shave on DE razor. That's all my Dad had. I went to Parris Island and got a Trac II and found what a decent shave was. I use a Quatro now. One pass and done. No nicks, no cuts, no problem. It's more expensive but worth every penny.

DE worked for me. I can see how it wouldn't work for some.
I used cheap razors, and good razors(cartridge type) and they always made me break out and get burn. DE takes time, but it works well for me. Bonus: My son also loves to come in the bathroom and "shave" with me when I do it. Bonding time! Pretty irritating when someone forces their opinion on someone else. Its almost communist. |

Bic or Gillette invented something called the "Edge" about then. Smoother shave, no more slicing my face. Progress, it marches on. Model-T's are pretty fucking sweet, but there's a reason only a handful are still running. Now I'll grant you, safety razors are cool to mess with, as something antique. Kinda steampunk. That's no reason to use one to shave with though. Unless there are no better options available. |

I have never cut myself with a double edge. I started a year or so ago. I still have to buy cartridges for my wife and daughter though.
I did buy a trac Ii style bump fighter head and some trac II carts for trips. Hated them to and happened to find a travel tech de razor in a case in an antique shop. Now I can have a great cheap shave on the road to. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |
